Is there anything more bittersweet than finishing a series you love? On the Way to the Wedding by Julia Quinn brings the Bridgerton saga to a close with all the swoony chaos, longing glances, and tangled emotions you could hope for. Gregory’s story is a romantic rollercoaster, and it’s one you won’t want to get off.

What is On the Way to the Wedding by Julia Quinn about?

This final Bridgerton installment follows Gregory, the most hopeless romantic of the bunch, as he tumbles headfirst into love. What starts as instant infatuation with one woman quickly shifts when her best friend, Lucy, begins to steal his heart instead. On the Way to the Wedding by Julia Quinn is about missed chances, unexpected connections, and the big, dramatic moments that lead to true love. Spoiler: it’s not a smooth path to the altar.

On the Way to the Wedding by Julia Quinn Book Review

It’s over! It’s really over!

I have fallen in love with each of the Bridgerton books and I am saddened to know that this is the end. This series has become one of my favourites and has tide me over those reading slumps. I know I can count on Julia Quinn and the Bridgertons to help me out when the books I’ve been reading have been less than stellar.

With Julia, it’s always a guaranteed good read. In ON THE WAY TO THE WEDDING, we learn more about the youngest Bridgerton brother, Gregory. I really enjoyed his presence in the previous books so to read his story was a lot of fun. Gregory is a romantic. He believes in everlasting love and even in love at first sight. So when he sees a woman who steals the breath from his lungs, Gregory just knows that this woman will be his wife.

Unfortunately for Lucy Abernathy, Gregory falls for Hermione Watson, her best friend. The odd thing about it is that Lucy is all right with that. Hermione has always been the diamond in the room, often ogled and pined for. And Lucy has always been…well, Lucy.

But despite the attention that the ton gives her, Hermione already has her heart set on someone. And so the story goes…

Gregory pines for Hermione who pines for her father’s secretary while poor Lucy starts developing feelings for Gregory and does whatever she can to help him win Hermione over. Despite her growing feelings for Gregory, Lucy puts honor before her own happiness.

As she is engaged to be married since her birth, Lucy battles between doing the right thing and following her heart. But who said that doing the right thing didn’t involve her own happiness?
I have to admire Quinn’s writing in this book. She does a great job of making this story come full circle. It starts with Gregory’s POV in the beginning and then Lucy’s POV of a particularly pivotal scene towards the end and I think it was perfect in “tying the knot” so to speak.

The ending really picked up in its pace and made this book really easy to devour. I couldn’t stop myself from flipping those pages until it was done.

All in all, this series will go down as one of my favourites of all-time. Now I’ll need to find a replacement go-to- author when those reading slumps catch up with me.

About the Bridgerton Series by Julia Quinn

On the Way to the Wedding by Julia Quinn is the eighth and final book in the bestselling Bridgerton series, where each sibling gets their own Regency-era love story. Gregory, the youngest Bridgerton brother, closes out the series with a high-stakes romance full of surprises, heart, and humor. It’s the perfect send-off for a family that’s charmed readers for years.

Final Thoughts

There’s no denying that On the Way to the Wedding by Julia Quinn is a fitting finale, filled with charm, urgency, and just the right amount of drama. Gregory’s journey may start with mistaken love, but it ends in exactly the right place. If you’re saying goodbye to the Bridgertons, this is the kind of send-off they deserve.
