The Summer 2026 Mystery Releases I’m Most Anticipating
I know sometimes more options can just end up feeling more overwhelming. Especially if you’re not usually a mystery reader and you’re dipping your toes in. And as someone who was reading mystery and thrillers before I dove into romance, I understand both perspectives. So here’s my short list of my most anticipated ones, and I’ll get into each one farther down.
- To All the Men I’ve Killed Before by Katy Brent
- Summer Coven by Kat Hillis and Rosiee Thor
- The Fatal Unpleasantness at Netherfield by Claudia Gray
Summer 2026 Thrillers
Summer isn’t all sunshine and swoons. Sometimes you want the book that keeps you up past 2am because you have to know how it ends. And spoiler alert, it will be twisty!

Some heavy hitter thriller authors on our Summer 2026 mystery releases list, that’s for sure. It Could Have Been Her by Lisa Jewell is about a house full of secrets of the past for our protagonist and for a missing teenage girl. Coming out June 23, 2026 and it sounds like its coming to stir up trauma! Heart of Glass by Jennifer Hillier sounds utterly fascinating. We have 3 teenage best friends who met a drifter at an amusement park and then one of them turned up dead. He confesses to being a serial killer and they move on with their lives. But years later he recants that confession and another body turns up. This has summer scares written all over it. This one comes out August 25, 2026. And last, The Secrets We Hide by Karin Slaughter out August 11, 2026 needs no introduction. Karin Slaughter does creepy scary in a way few people can. I’m so ready to dive into this small town thriller.
Summer 2026 Mystery Releases
For when you want a puzzle to chew on by the pool but not necessarily a body count that keeps you up at night.

We’ve got The Mortal Enemy Murder Club by Gloria Chao which comes out July 28, 2026 and it’s the follow up to The Ex-Girlfriend Murder Club. A smart and funny mystery. Next is one of my most anticipated frankly because of the title. To All the Men I’ve Killed Before by Katy Brent, out August 27, 2026, is the third in the Kitty Collins series and it’s all about that female rage. Let’s get it! Deadly Does It by Abby Waxman out July 21, 2026. A Gen Z adrenaline junkie and ex-con, ex-actress turned amateur sleuth investigate a mystery through the hippest spots in Los Angeles. That’s a duo I would definitely want investigating anything. Resourceful and with a slightly dubious mind.
Summer 2026 Historical Mysteries
If you want your whodunit in petticoats and period detail, this is your shelf. One of my favorite things to read the last few years is a historical mystery, even more if they have a side of romance throughout.
Would you like to save this?

The Fatal Unpleasantness at Netherfield by Claudia Gray releases on June 16, 2026 and there’s nothing more exciting than a Pride and Prejudice murder mystery. YES! Combining two of my favorite things. A Lark’s Gambit by Lynn Messina is book 6 in the Verity Lark Mysteries and comes out July 24, 2026. If you want the Regency vibe and London’s most intrepid reporter, this is your series. A historical mystery that leans cozy, witty and low-stakes. Murder in Blackfriars by Jennifer Ashley out August 11, 2026 brings us back to Victorian London and with our amateur sleuth cook. Kat is a fantastic heroine. Her strength, intelligence and kindness makes her a compelling and extremely likeable character. I can’t wait for the next adventure.
Summer 2026 Cozy Mysteries
Low stakes, high charm, usually a small town and a body turning up. The comfort read of the crime shelf, and perfect for a porch afternoon.

A Murder at the Mansion by Ellie Alexander out July 21, 2026 and Ms. Alexander is a staple in the cozy mystery genre. In this one we have an heiress vanishing from her mansion and bookshop owner and investigator is on the case. Bubble, Bubble, Tea and Trouble by Vicki Delany is coming July 28, 2026 and it’s bringing us to Cape Cod with a tearoom owner conducting a group seance at her grandmothers’ Victorian B&B. I’m already loving the cozy and paranormal vibes of this one. And if you prefer something a little more fun, look no further than Missing in Soho by Holly Stars out June 2, 2026. A drag queen trying to save her club in the middle of an investigation with a missing photographer and a megalomaniac millionaire. Get your sparkle on.
Summer 2026 Cozy Paranormal Mysteries
Cozy mystery with a witchy twist, sign me right up! Paranormal is always my wheelhouse, so you know I had to include it. Especially because the vibes of these are the perfect supernatural taste during the summer.

Be Still My Unbeating Heart by Josh Winning is out August 4, 2026 and it’s one of my recommendations. Especially if you love Interview with the Vampire. Picture a hero with Lestat’s looks and swagger but cast in Louis’s role, trying to clear his name in a murder investigation while on vacation in Italy. Summer Coven by Kat Hillis and Rosiee Thor out August 25, 2026 and it’s perfect for the season. A vampire odd couple, a bed & breakfast, and a mystery to solve: a pet psychic felled by a potion. The vibes are immaculate! And Eight Enchanting Elixirs by Lynn Cahoon out July 28, 2026 brings the eighth book in the Kitchen Witch series, and our caterer and witch in charge is having her witch credentials questioned and has to take the exam again. The coziness of a kitchen witch in the summer is unparalleled fun for the season. If you want a side of warmth, this is the one.
Summer 2026 Horror Books
And to close, the books for when you want summer to be a little scary. And listen, I don’t go here often, but once in a while you need to shake things up a bit. And here’s the ones on my radar.

The Unknown by Riley Sager comes out August 4, 2026 and this is a heavy hitter author in the genre. The premise is also interesting. We have a case of 5 women disappearing in 1926, and now 100 years later it’s happening again. If you’re looking for dread, Riley Sager will deliver. Muñeca by Cynthia Gómez is a debut out June 2, 2026 that looks like a perfectly gothic and horrifying story. It’s about a queer, Latine working class witch rescuing a bespelled heiress. For a touch of gothic with diversity, lean into this one. These Walls Remember by Del Sandeen is out August 18, 2026 and it’s the classic house with secrets horror for when you want to settle in for a night of frights (and some popcorn).
