Romanceopoly Summer 2026 Reading Challenge: Prompts & Reading Guide
Join the Romanceopoly Summer 2026 reading challenge with 4 romance prompts to read in 3 months, plus get community book recommendations for your summer TBR.

Looking for a Summer 2026 reading challenge that does not require a spreadsheet, a reading quota, or turning your favorite hobby into a second job?
Same.
The Romanceopoly Heatwave Cup is here, and like every seasonal round, it keeps things loose and flexible. Four prompts, three months, and you read one book per prompt or double up if a single book covers more than one. Mood read the whole way through. Zero pressure.
If you’re new around here, Romanceopoly is one of our signature reading experiences at Under the Covers. Part reading challenge, part reader clubhouse, part excuse to finally crack open the books that have been giving you side-eye from your TBR for years.
In this guide I’m breaking down all four Heatwave Cup prompts, sharing community picks from our Discord and Fable readers, and giving you a place to start if you have no idea what to read first.

How the Romanceopoly Summer 2026 Reading Challenge Works
This seasonal reading challenge runs from July through September 2026 and includes four prompts. The goal is not to stress over a bingo board, it is simply to have fun, try something new, and maybe get a little too emotionally attached to a fictional character.
A few things to know:
- You do not need to be doing the yearly Romanceopoly reading challenge to join this one. But if you want to find out what that’s all about, we would love to have you.
- Want to track your progress? Join our Heatwave Cup challenge on StoryGraph and check off each prompt as you read. You do not need it to play along, but it is a fun, no-pressure way to keep score and browse the books people are using for inspiration.
- Prefer something you can hold? Our free printable and digital resources include the Heatwave Cup challenge cards, a booklet where you can find included a one page list of the prompts, and more, so you can play along on paper or on your tablet.
- The most you will have to read in the three months is four books. You can read less if you find one that fits multiple prompts.
- Community recommendations are part of the fun, so if you already have a pick, share it in the comments or come join the community (more on that below).
Summer 2026 Reading Challenge Prompts at a Glance
Here are the four Heatwave Cup prompts for this round of Romanceopoly, with a few places to start:
- Rift Run: Read a high-stakes romance where the characters are running or chasing (heist, revenge, supernatural).
- Cursebreaker Clash: Read a paranormal romance built on a curse, prophecy, or supernatural contract.
- Double Faulted Desires: Read a steamy romance with miscommunication, mistaken identity, or rivals.
- Enchanted Rally: Read a whimsical fantasy or romantasy (think royaltycore, forestcore, glam).
Now let’s get into the fun part.
Rift Run: Read a High-Stakes, On-the-Run Romance
We are opening the Heatwave Cup at a dead sprint. Rift Run wants a high-stakes romance where somebody is running or chasing: a heist, a revenge plot, a supernatural chase, two people on the run from something or someone. If your idea of a good time is a couple falling in love while the stakes climb by the chapter, this is your prompt. And if you want a running start, here is our roundup of romance heist novels that will steal your heart.
Community recommendations for Rift Run

- Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo, from Dapper Corvid and Amber
- Stealing from Mr. Rich by Anna Hackett, from Tammy
- The Wren in the Holly Library by K.A. Linde, from Melody
- The Duke Heist by Erica Ridley, from Ronda and I cosign this one

On my TBR for this prompt: Maggie and Arthur’s Magic Moment by Leslie René (out July 28). It’s a cozy magical academia romance where a dangerous, haunting magic gets loose in the halls and a linguistics professor and a broody alchemist have to race to reverse it before it swallows the whole college. High stakes, one office, and a masquerade kiss to untangle. I have the ARC and I am ready.
Cursebreaker Clash: Read a Paranormal Romance With a Curse, Prophecy, or Contract
Now we are in my favorite territory. Cursebreaker Clash calls for a paranormal romance built on a curse, a prophecy, or a supernatural contract. You can use a fantasy romance too. Broken bloodline curses, fated bargains, prophecies nobody asked for. This happens to be one of our favorite things to read around here.

Would you like to save this?
- A Fate Inked in Blood by Danielle L. Jensen, from Amber, NEXIA, and Amanda C
- Promise of Darkness by Bec McMaster, from Ronda and a UTC pick too
- The Devil’s Curse by P.S. Scott, from JokersGal
- A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer, from NEXIA

On my TBR for this prompt: Immortal Rose by Alexandra Bracken (out August 18), her adult romantasy debut. Think scent magic, a fae blooded perfume house, and a bargain with a silver eyed spymaster to craft the one perfume that can save the kingdom. ARC has been secured and I can’t wait to read this one.
Double Faulted Desires: Read a Steamy Miscommunication, Mistaken Identity, or Rivals Romance
This is the tropey, turned-up prompt. Double Faulted Desires wants a steamy romance running on miscommunication, mistaken identity, or rivals. Bring your enemies to lovers, that lie that spirals into a whole mess, and two people who are completely wrong about each other right up until they are very, very right.
Community recommendations for Double Faulted Desires

- Check & Mate by Ali Hazelwood, from Lawesome8904
- You, with a View by Jessica Joyce, from road to nowhere
- Daggermouth by H.M. Wolfe, from Bella
- Twisted Hate by Ana Huang, from NEXIA

On my TBR for this prompt: The Winged Game by Sophie Kim. It’s a rivals to lovers sports romantasy where a disgraced star has to team up and fake date the nemesis who torched her career, all while a magical rugby-on-winged-beasts league unravels around them. Rivals, revenge, fake dating, and a summer sports hook. It’s out now and I cannot wait to get into it. I had the ARC for this one but I was saving it for this prompt.
Enchanted Rally: Read a Whimsical Fantasy or Romantasy
We close the Cup in full fantasy mode. Enchanted Rally is your whimsical fantasy or romantasy pick with a flare of royaltycore, forestcore and whimsy. Think courts and crowns, enchanted forests, a little sparkle and a lot of yearning.
Community recommendations for Enchanted Rally

- Song of the Abyss by Emma Hamm, from Dapper Corvid
- Bromantasy by Maire Roche, from JokersGal, and I cosign this one
- Emily Wilde’s Encyclopedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett, from road to nowhere and Amber
- A Witch’s Guide to Magical Innkeeping by Sangu Mandanna, from road to nowhere and Ronda

On my TBR for this prompt: Nemesis Mine by Amy Archer, a queer cozy romantasy pitched for fans of Shrek and The Princess Bride. A not-so-evil villain and a too-perfect hero fake a rivalry to boost their fame and fall for each other instead. Whimsical, funny, big-hearted fantasy. Full confession: I had the ARC and did not get to it in time, so now it is officially on my challenge list where it belongs.
