19 Best July 2026 Book Releases to Add to Your TBR
Looking for the best July 2026 book releases to fit your mood? I rounded up 19 new romance, fantasy and mystery reads hitting shelves, including my top three.

June was a good reading month, which means I walked into July greedy for more instead of burned out, and that is the best way to start a new stack. I am not trying to read everything. I am trying to read the right things, slowly, in the order that suits me.
And July is not short on options. This month gives you storm chasers in the middle of hurricane season, a broody alchemist sharing one very small office, a duke and the reformer he never should have hired, vampires and fae still circling each other, a paleontology dig gone sideways, a pop star framed for murder, ghosts crashing a fortieth birthday, and one very grumpy chef. How amazing does that sound? Every month I go through the new book releases across contemporary, historical, paranormal, fantasy, and mystery so you do not have to.
The idea here is not volume. It is that whatever you are in the mood for, there is a July book that does it, and I will tell you which one and why. Let’s get into it.

My Top 3 July 2026 Book Releases
I am perpetually behind on my ARCs and I have made peace with that. But these three I actually finished, and they are the ones I keep bringing up unprompted, so they earn the top of the list.

Yes, Chef by Grace Reilly
RELEASE DATE: July 21, 2026
This one is a cute romcom and it delivers exactly what the cover promises. I love a book around food, and I love a good grumpy sunshine even more, so a grumpy chef and a sunshine influencer trying to save a restaurant was always going to work for me. What makes it land is that you are rooting for both of them on their own, not just as a couple. Jack wants to prove himself, Poppy wants to prove herself, and the feel good comes from watching both of those things happen at the same time as the romance.
In the Wake of the Ruined by Kalie Cassidy
RELEASE DATE: July 7, 2026
This was one of my most anticipated reads of the year, and it actually delivered, which does not always happen with a sequel carrying this much hype. What I wanted was gothic atmosphere, the kind that has been missing from a lot of the romantasy I have picked up, and this handed it right to me. Sirens, a corrupted bond to an ancient deity, a realm on the edge of war, all of it was the exact mood I keep chasing. If the first book got its hooks in you, this one delivers.
Ravenous by Kresley Cole
RELEASE DATE: July 28, 2026
Kresley Cole is expanding the Immortals After Dark universe with a new series called Immortals Untold, and Ravenous is where it starts. It runs multiple POVs, but the thing that got me is that it brings back the original feel of IAD. The banter between characters, the witches, that specific early books energy, it all hit nostalgic in the best way. If you’ve been missing this world the way I did, this one reads like a homecoming.
Now here are the other fifteen I have my eye on this month, sorted by genre so you can go straight to what you love the most.
Contemporary Romance July 2026 Book Releases
Contemporary is running hot this July, and not just temperature wise.

In Stormy Weather by Chelsea Curto
RELEASE DATE: July 14, 2026
I have really enjoyed Chelsea Curto’s hockey series, so I already trust her, and then she went and wrote a storm chaser romance. I am the kind of person who is genuinely into storm chasing (in books or movies, not real life I’m not totally crazy), so this was an immediate add to the TBR. Enemies to lovers meteorologists chasing hurricanes across one Florida summer is a very specific pitch. Not sure what that says about me that I’m all in, especially living in Florida and dreading hurricane season.
Daybreak by Autumn Woods
RELEASE DATE: July 28, 2026
This is the sequel to Nightshade, and I really enjoyed that first book, so I have been waiting on this one. It is dark academia set in the Scottish Highlands, with the kind of gothic gloom that hooked me the first time around. If you like Nocticadia, this is the series to pick up for the vibes. Just know it closes out the duology, so you are getting the whole story ready to go.
Fossil Feud by Maggie North
RELEASE DATE: July 28, 2026
Adventure romance, and I am there, no further questions. This one is rival paleontologists teaming up on a Montana dig to expose a fake dinosaur discovery, which is a premise I did not know I needed until right now. It has been pitched as Jurassic Park but make it a romance, and honestly that is enough of a sell for me.
Historical Romance July 2026 Book Releases
Historical is where I go when I want a little softness and yearning, and this month has tons of range, from a Regency romp to something with a little witch stirred in.

Just for the Season by Rachel Griffiths
RELEASE DATE: July 7, 2026
The pitch I saw was the Bachelorette but make it Bridgerton, and I said say less. I need no further explanation. It has the brother’s best friend and forced proximity trope that makes for a perfect summer historical. If you want a Regency that reads like a sunny afternoon, start here.
Pride Comes Before a Fall by Virginia Heath
RELEASE DATE: July 28, 2026
Virginia Heath writes the perfect Regency romcom, and this series is so much fun. This one puts a pompous duke and a radical reformer chaperone in the same house, which is exactly the mismatch that makes her books the best. If you have not read her before, you are in for a treat, and if you have, you already know the drill.
The Hexing Miss Helena by Darcy McGuire
RELEASE DATE: July 14, 2026
For a little paranormal in your historical, this is a cozy sapphic historical fantasy romance, perfect for fans of India Holton and Practical Magic, which is a combination that sounds like a very good time to me. Victorian witches solving crimes and falling in love is a premise you can’t say no to. I haven’t heard many people talking about this series, but I’m definitely excited to give it a try.
Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy July 2026 Book Releases
You know this is where my heart lives, so I take this shelf personally very seriously.

Would you like to save this?
Unpredictable Magic by Faith Hunter
RELEASE DATE: July 14, 2026
This is the first in a new series, but it is set in the Jane Yellowrock world, which means you get that whole universe without needing to be caught up on a fifteen-book backlist. It follows the grown-up Everhart siblings running a paranormal PI firm, with Jane herself hovering at the edges. Faith Hunter has been building this world for years, and a fresh entry point into it is a gift. If you have wanted to try her but the backlist felt like too much, this is a great place to start. Plus, I’m a sucker for a paranormal PI.
An Education in Longing by Charlotte Stein
RELEASE DATE: July 7, 2026
Charlotte Stein is a favorite around here, so this was always going in. It is a more erotic take on the magical university, where the heroine has to control her sexual desire to access powerful magic, which is a fun twist on the trope. I have been deep in magical university territory lately, and I will always trust Charlotte Stein. This is the spicy one on the list.
Maggie and Arthur’s Magic Moment by Leslie René
RELEASE DATE: July 28, 2026
Another magical academy, this time with a dangerous magic loose in the building and two people forced to fix it together, a broody alchemist and a linguistics professor. That setup alone had me, and it is a debut from an author I had never heard of, which is exactly the kind of pick I love finding. One office, one problem, and a lot of tension.
Die For Me by Shirlene Obuobi
RELEASE DATE: July 14, 2026
This one is giving major Anne Rice vibes, and around here that is the highest compliment I can hand out. It follows a Black woman cardiologist, still healing from a bad marriage, who falls for a brooding much-younger man who turns out to be far too old to actually be human, and the whole thing has that lush, seductive, monster-romance mood I grew up on. The author built it as a love letter to the early-2000s paranormals, the True Blood and Vampire Diaries era.
Fantasy and Romantasy July 2026 Book Releases
If you look past the BookTok table once in a while, this is where the good stuff has been hiding this month.

Spellcast by Sophie Jordan
RELEASE DATE: July 28, 2026
I have been a huge fan of the Fire in the Sky series, and the second book ended on a cliffhanger that has been living rent free in my head, so Spellcast cannot come fast enough. It’s a great pick if you love Rebecca Yarros, but a bit more adult. If you want dragons and spice with real stakes, this is the series for you.
Daggermouth by H.M. Wolfe
RELEASE DATE: July 28, 2026
I have been waiting for the traditional publishing of this one, because it was a BookTok sensation and I wanted the pretty hardcover since I didn’t grab the indie copy. It is dystopian romance, a mercenary who botches an assassination and ends up married to her target inside a surveillance state. Everyone swears it is a truuuue enemies to lovers, not the two people who mildly annoy each other kind. I am holding you all to it.
The Serpent’s Throne by Kathryn Ann Kingsley
RELEASE DATE: July 10, 2026
This is the third book in a series I have been loving, and it has everything I want in one place: vampires and fae, enemies to lovers, high stakes. It is great for fans of Jeaniene Frost, which around here is about the highest compliment I can give a book. A shapeshifting assassin and the vampire she swore to kill, still circling each other. I need to know how this ends.
Mystery July 2026 Book Releases
And to close it out, a little murder, because summer reading can’t be all sweet.

A Murder at the Mansion by Ellie Alexander
RELEASE DATE: July 21, 2026
Ellie Alexander is always a go to when I want a cozy mystery that does not stress me out. This one drops a bookshop investigator into the case of a vanished heiress at a sprawling estate, which is exactly the comfort I am after right now. She is the author you reach for when you want the genre done right. Perfect for a porch afternoon.
Hot Girl Murder Club by Ashley Winstead
RELEASE DATE: July 14, 2026
This one sounds like a fun thriller that mixes sisterhood and murder, and that is a combination I do not think I can turn down. A pop star framed for a string of celebrity killings, ten years after her sister’s death, with a network of ambitious women around her. It leans into the feminist revenge lane, and I am curious to see how it works out. A little bloodier than my cozy picks for sure.
A Bewitching Flicker of Fate by Melissa Holtz
RELEASE DATE: July 21, 2026
I have been wanting to get into the Gin and Tarot series for a while, because it has always looked like the perfect pick if you like Practical Magic. It is a cozy mystery with a real touch of magic, a group of friends who come into supernatural skills and use them to solve crimes. I am hoping it lives up to the vibe I have built for it in my head. Cozy, witchy, a body or two, sign me up.
Which One Are You Adding to Your TBR?
If you make me pick, the one I keep pressing on people this month is In the Wake of the Ruined but you have to read book 1 if you haven’t. But that is my shelf. I want to know about yours.
Which of these are you adding to your TBR? Which are your most anticipated reads of the month? Tell me in the comments, because I’m always adding to my list.
If you want the bigger picture, here is my running list of the most anticipated books of 2026, and if you are building a summer stack specifically, start with the best summer 2026 romance releases.
