Her Knight at the Museum by Bryn Donovan was so much fun, and it got four stars from me. A medieval knight, cursed into a statue of his own body, aware of everything happening around him for centuries, until a museum conservator kisses him one day and breaks it.

I added this one to my TBR the second the cover was revealed and the reason is simple. I love A Knight in Shining Armor by Jude Deveraux and this gave me those exact vibes. It delivered.

Hallmark thought so too! A Knight to Remember is the adaptation, premiering October 3, 2026. It’s this book.

I read this one during a hurricane evacuation

It’s October 2024. Hurricane Milton was forecast to come straight for us in Florida, so we evacuated. I spent that stretch of time in a hotel room for days waiting to find out what was left. Thankfully for us, Milton shifted course just a bit and we only got hit a little in the end.

This adorably cute story definitely helped while we waited. A medieval knight loose in modern Chicago running shenanigans while I was stuck in a hotel with the storm coverage running non stop on the TV. Talk about making a book memorable!

What is Her Knight at the Museum about?

Sir Griffin is a medieval knight who was cursed by an enchanter and turned to stone. Not dead, not asleep. Aware the whole time. He has spent centuries inside a statue of his own body, conscious of everything going on around him, and occasionally able to reach people through their dreams.

The statue ends up at the Art Institute of Chicago as part of an upcoming exhibit, and Emily Porter, a conservator there, has to get into perfect condition for display. She starts feeling like the statue is talking her. Then she starts seeing the knight it was modeled on in her dreams, and some of those dreams get a little sexual.

One day she kisses the statue and the curse breaks.

Now there is a medieval knight loose in modern Chicago with no idea how any of it works, what the rules are, pr how to get a job. And Emily is in the middle of an investigation into a stolen statue, because the statue she was restoring is no longer in the building.

Is Her Knight at the Museum a time travel romance?

Not in the strict sense, since Griffin never travels anywhere. He was here the whole time, stuck. But it gives you everything you want from a time travel romance, which is a hero from another century trying to function in this one.

That fish out of water thing is my favorite part. Everything is new to him. There is an innocence to a hero like that which I love and Ms. Donovan gets it just right. Griffin is confused by technology, full of old world charm and wreaking havoc on Emily’s life in the most adorable way possible.

Who are Emily and Sir Griffin?

Emily is recently divorced and has sworn off fairytales, which is fun to see woman starting over getting a literal knight in shining armor. She is also good at her job.

Griffin is a charmer. He is both eager to figure out modern life while bringing his old school sensibilities. And he’s also terrible at the details of it.

Both characters are lovable it’s hard not to root for them.

How spicy is Her Knight at the Museum?

It is sweet, but sweet as in sweet not as in no sex. There is sex in the book. Not super spicy though.

Her Knight in Shining Armor Movie Adaptation

A Knight to Remember premieres Saturday, October 3 at 8/7c on Hallmark Channel, starring Julie Gonzale as the conservator and James Trevena as the knight. The setup is exactly as the book: a knight’s statue arrives at a Chicago museum and the conservator kisses it while she’s cleaning it and he wakes up. I’m super excited to see it come to life and I’ll come and update here once I do.

Is Her Knight at the Museum worth reading?

Four stars from me. I definitely think so. If you are looking for a cute one with the time travel energy, this is a great option. It’s a fun take on fairytales with two characters who are easy to love.
