August 2025 Book Adaptations To Watch

My Oxford Year – August 1, 2025 (Netflix)
This fan-favorite debut by Julia Whelan finally gets the screen treatment, and it’s kicking off the month with all the feels. If you haven’t read the book yet, it follows Ella Durran, an ambitious American who earns a Rhodes Scholarship to Oxford. She’s got her whole life planned out… until she meets Jamie Davenport, the charming (and secretly complicated) British tutor who turns it all upside down.
Whelan’s writing is emotional, witty, and sneakily deep. If you’re into stories that feel like romance but also punch you in the gut emotionally? This is the one.
I recently watched The Life List, starring Sofia Carson, and she was so good in it so I’m excited to see her in the lead role in My Oxford Year. Perfect timing.
Watch it if you love: slow-burn romance, big life decisions, study abroad vibes.

The Map That Leads to You – August 20, 2025 (Amazon Prime)
This sleeper hit from 2017 is finally getting the attention. Set in Europe and filled with whirlwind travel and romance, The Map That Leads to You by J.P. Monninger follows Heather, a recent college grad traveling across Europe with friends before starting her real life. Then she meets Jack on a train, mysterious, magnetic, and the kind of stranger who changes everything.
Madelyn Cline (Outer Banks) is taking on the lead role in this one and honestly, I couldn’t think of a better casting. She’s got the right mix of charm and heartache to bring Heather’s character to life. I think this one’s been quietly flying under the radar, but it’s about to blow up. If you want more casting details and what to expect from the adaptation, I have a whole breakdown on The Map That Leads to You Book to Screen News.

The Thursday Murder Club – August 28, 2025 (Netflix)
This one’s for all of us who love our crime with a side of cozy. The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman has been a bestseller for a reason. Imagine four retirees in a quiet English village who meet weekly to solve cold cases… until a real murder lands right in their laps.
It’s clever, heartfelt, and has just the right amount of British humor. It’s Netflix, so expectations are high. I’m especially excited to see how they bring the quirky charm of these characters to life on screen.
Watch it if you love: ensemble casts, amateur sleuths, and cozy mysteries with actual stakes.
