The Mistake by Elle Kennedy review: Logan absolutely won me over

You know that risky moment when you loved the first book so much the sequel feels dangerous to go into? Yeah, that. The Mistake by Elle Kennedy had every chance to disappoint, and it gave us a dreamy follow-up instead: swoony, funny, genuinely sexy. The hero who turns out to have way more going on under the charm than you expect. If you were even a little bit curious about Logan after The Deal, this is a must read.

What is The Mistake by Elle Kennedy about?

In The Mistake by Elle Kennedy, hockey golden boy John Logan is spiraling behind his easy grin, and Grace Ivers ends up being the girl who makes him want to do better. It starts as flirtation and turns into friendship, lots of chemistry, and a romance that feels messy but kind of impossible not to root for.

I’ve always been a fan of author Elle Kennedy, but I was nervous about my like of the book when I picked up THE DEAL. And then she blew me away. It’s like she had this whole other writing voice insider of her I didn’t know about and I gobbled it all up! But then I was nervous again to read THE MISTAKE. Could it be as good as the first one? Well, have no fear….THE MISTAKE is the perfect follow up to THE DEAL and a book that you will all fall in love with. Yes, again.

I liked John Logan from the very beginning of THE DEAL and I thought the poor thing, he deserves an HEA. Getting to know him more now, he’s sexy, he’s alpha, and surprisingly he was really affected by NOT getting the girl before. He’s been on a self destructive path for a while because of that. Until by chance he meets Grace. She’s just uncomplicated enough to be the right thing he needed to let his guard down. And what starts off as just some fun turns into deeper feelings.

Logan is one of my favorite heroes in the entire Briar world, and if you want to know where he ranks against Tucker, Dean, and Fitzy, my full Off Campus series guide has that conversation.

I think the author did an amazing job with the progression of the story and how they became good friends first, with plenty of things in common. It was sweet and incredibly sexy to watch, errr read. We peel the layers of both characters as the story progresses together, and I fell a little in love with each page I turned.

This is what good writing is all about. Elle Kennedy does it time and time again. Whether she’s writing some angry sex (no, not in this book!) or a sweet story. The heat level is high, the characters are deep, the story worms its way inside you. That’s the mark of a great storyteller in my book, and I’ll continue reading and recommending her books! Can’t wait to see what she has in store for us next.

About the Off Campus series by Elle Kennedy

The Mistake is Book 2 in Elle Kennedy’s Off-Campus series, following The Deal. The series is built around interconnected romances set at the same college but they can be read as standalones. However, I think this one lands even better if you already met Logan in The Deal first.

Is The Mistake by Elle Kennedy part of the Off Campus adaptation?

Not directly as Season 1. Prime Video’s Off Campus adaptation begins with Hannah and Garrett’s story from The Deal, but Logan is one of the central Briar players in the wider series world. And we did get confirmation that the show is coming back for season two.

Final Thoughts

If The Deal made you nervous to keep going because there was no way the next book could hit the same, The Mistake by Elle Kennedy is here to fix that problem fast. Logan gets a romance that softens him without removing what makes him fun, and Grace is exactly the kind of heroine who keeps the story grounded.
