The Dare by Elle Kennedy is cute, charming, and way more heartfelt
A fake seduction setup, a sweetheart hockey hero, and way too many reasons to fall for Conor. My review of The Dare by Elle Kennedy.

Are you in the mood for a himbo-adjacent hockey hero who is basically built to ruin your life in a very pleasant way? Because The Dare by Elle Kennedy absolutely has that covered.

What is The Play by Elle Kennedy about?
The Dare by Elle Kennedy starts with Taylor getting pushed into a humiliating sorority dare: seduce the hottest new hockey player in her year. Except Conor Edwards does not react the way she expects. Instead of being awful, he plays along, and what starts as a fake little scheme turns into something warmer, funnier, and much harder to pretend it’s not real.
The Play by Elle Kennedy Book Review
Content warnings: fatphobia and body-shaming, weight-related insecurity, and the hero kissing another girl while intoxicated (during a breakup).
Are you ready for a sweet jock hero? Because Conor will melt your heart! Starting with the best meet cute that will have you laughing, the chemistry between our main characters is palpable from the start. They’re so well matched and their friendship stands out from the start.

I always have a harder time connecting with a heroine that is not as confident and in this case it gave me a little pause that she would have all those ideas about herself but at the same time felt so completely comfortable with our hero. That being said, their personalities worked so well together that it made for some really fun scenes and moments. If you’re looking for a book that will put a smile on your face, this is it!
Every book in this series has tackled with some sort of serious subject and that is also the case here. Maybe not quite as gutting as others but certainly relevant. I think the author did it really well.
Would you like to save this?
Whether you’re a long time fan of the series or a newbie you’ll be able to enjoy this book. But for us fans there’s plenty of cameo appearances that made this one even better. THE DARE is not quite my favorite book in this series but it’s a great addition to it. Sadly though, I believe it’s the last one.

About the Briar U series by Elle Kennedy
The Dare is book 4 and the final book in Elle Kennedy’s Briar U series. This series is a spin off of the Off Campus series, but each book in both can be read as a standalone. They are all interconnected.
Final Thoughts
The Dare by Elle Kennedy is not my top Briar U book, but it is one of those reads that is just ridiculously easy to like. Conor is bringing the sweet, funny hockey boy energy with excellent banter, but Taylor and Conor together really do work.
