What romance tropes and settings feel most like spring?

Seasonal reading can be very personal, and spring romance tropes and settings can blend in a bit with summer. But for me, I always look for books that are overflowing with nature. From flower shops, farms, vineyards, even some cowboy stories. Even cottagecore vibes, whether paranormal or contemporary set. These are tailor made for spring. Also some more atmospheric or mysterious reads with botanical themes. And then we have plot of any fresh start, new in town, all about new beginnings.

I’ve got a starter pack for you of spring romance tropes with some recommendations to get you started.

Flower Farms and Floral Romance

Floral Romance - Romance books with flower farm and flower shops

Kicking off Spring with a bit of “April showers bring May flowers” vibes! Whether it’s flower shop romances or flower farm romances, if there’s anything blooming, it’s going on my spring reading list.

It Seemed Like a Good Idea by Lauren Blakely

This is a recent release that was recommended over on my Discord since reading a flower/nature romance is one of the Romanceopoly reading challenge prompts. Lauren Blakely is an author that I always enjoy and this story has all the markings of a fun adventure. The heroine runs a lavender farm and the hero is a bodyguard assigned to protect her because her twin sister landed a big movie role. It’s celebrity adjacent, which is another thing I love to read in the spring.

Darling Daffodils Farm by Brittanée Nicole

The cover of this book alone screams spring to me so it was an easy immediate add to my TBR. Everything about it is like my kryptonite. We have a grumpy/sunshine pairing, an aspiring pastry chef that comes back home to her family’s daffodil farm and falls for the cowboy running the business sleeping in her old room. Yes it has the flowers but also bonus points because of the foodie part. Give me all the pastries.

A Pack for Spring by Emilia Emerson

Cozy and omegaverse rounds up this list perfectly. This is all about things that feel nature and crafty. This one is about our heroine who runs a sewing shop and the heroes are a the fire chief, a grumpy business and a florist. I definitely need a playful option for my spring reading and this standalone MMFM why choose small town romance has all the right vibes. Not only because of the flowers and cottagecore but also we add the spice.

Also add to your TBR: Sunflower Season by Danica Nava, out November 3, 2026. I am definitely adding this one to my TBR for next year, but if you love flower farm romances, keep this one on your radar too.

Farmer, Rancher, and Cowboy Romance for Earthy Spring Vibes

Spring romance tropes - farmer

Then we get all the true earthy vibes with farmer romances and cowboys. Spring is peak farming season and it’ll be perfect for your reading as well. Muddy boots, open land, maybe some baby animals, but usually lots of broody attitude too.

Bet the Farm by Staci Hart

The heroine has one summer to save the dairy farm she inherited (and yikes, she’s lactose intolerant). And she has to deal with the farmhand that inherited the other 50%. I’ve really enjoyed the small town (and farm) romances I’ve read by Staci Hart. She writes with charm and steam.

In a Jam by Kate Canterbary

This is one of my favorite farmer romances and it’s usually the first one that comes to mind when I think of farmers. There’s just something perfect about a single dad, slightly grumpy farmer. The heroine inherits a tulip farm but with the condition that she has to move to the town and get married in a year. The farmer next door used to have a crush on her in school but never told her and now is too busy as the guardian to his niece. This is sweet and a little angst with a side of steam.

Boots Beneath Her Bed by Taylor Esposito

This 2026 release is for the horse girlies instead. A mysterious horse trainer heroine and a ranch foreman who is also the owner’s son. I love stories with secret identities and of course a cowboy who doesn’t like outsiders. That just seems like the perfect combo to make sparks fly. But also the backdrop and the horses definitely put this one high on my list. Plus, this one comes highly recommended by friends.

Also looking ahead we have The Scottish Strawberry Farm by Bonnie Woods which comes out June 18, 2026. A farmer in the Scottish Highlands? I’m in!

Vineyard Romance for a Lush Spring Escape

Spring Romance Tropes Vineyard

Listen, I lived in Brooklyn for many years and would go to the Long Island North Shore all the time. Spring is the actual perfect time (my favorite anyway) to go visit the vineyards. They have bud break season, a cool breeze, lighter crowds. It’s perfect! When it’s too hot or too crowded is not as great. So I always think of vineyard romance when I think of Spring.

Drunk on Love by Jasmine Guillory

Set in Napa Valley wine country with a hot one night stand with a stranger turns awkward when he walks in as the new hire. He’s a tech world dropout because his high paying job broken him. This is a wonderfully complex story about love but also so much more as it deals with the expectations of others and ourselves, the stress and fallout of chasing our dream jobs, and finding the balance that works. Yes, there’s wine, and romance, but also a great story about finding yourself again.

The Accidental Crush by Mia Heintzelman

If you want a whole vineyard romance series to dive into, look no further. I personally love the family unity of running a vineyard, the traditions, the headaches (because, family). We have the brother who no one takes seriously trying to save grandmas vineyard starting by hosting a Galentine’s Brunch. Except there’s a workaholic business consultant that thinks he was a hired escort. Mistaken identity, vacation fling. If you want romcom vibes, this is a perfect choice.

Zoe Brennan, First Crush by Laura Piper Lee

This one is on my must read TBR because it sounds amazing. It’s all about a wine festival competition, two rival wineries and a ex best friend now enemy situation. But in the middle of that Zoe has a blindfolded threesome and later finds that the butch who rocked her world is the sister of her enemy and now competing with her in the festival. This sounds like a steamier Hallmark movie if I ever saw one and I can’t wait to read it.

Traditional Cottagecore Romance

Spring romance tropes cottagecore

I’m talking the cute, small town with a cute garden and a pancake house vibes, all in a contemporary setting. Farmer’s markets, strawberry fields, baking, gardens and small town charm.

Swap and Smell the Roses by Karen Booth

A burned-out musician heads to the Connecticut countryside for a break, living her best #cottagecore life. But former chef, and grumpy landlord next door makes her all hot and bothered. This is the perfect fast and steamy read that you can totally read in one sitting.

The Cherry Crush Flower Shop by Harper Graham

He’s a scarred veteran returning home and working on his llama sanctuary, and she’s his oldest friend running a cozy flower shop complete with dried herbs and spiced tea. Harper Graham basically writes comfort food. If you want to feel like being wrapped in a warm hug, you’ll want to try this one.

Picnic and Promises at Strawberry Fields by Victoria Walters

This is perfect if you’re a fan of Laurie Gilmore’s feel good small town romances like me. Both main characters have fled to the farmhouse to lick their wounds from a broken heart, and their exes turn up looking for a second chance. So obviously, they have to fake a relationship to avoid them. Quirky and charming slow burn romance.

Also, let’s not forget that The Daisy Chain Flower Shop by Laurie Gilmore releases May 5, 2026 and looks like a great one for this vibe too.

Paranormal and Cozy Fantasy Cottagecore

You know it would just not be my list if I didn’t include some kind of paranormal creature and the cottagecore vibes in cozy fantasy are perfect for the season. I’m focusing here on the ones with more romance elements.

The Orc’s Sweetheart by Elle Sterling

A quiet island town perfect for living your cottagecore dreams. You’ve got a pierced, filthy mouthed orc and lots of meddling townspeople. What more can you ask for? The heroine takes a nursing job in the small town after working at the hospital in the city. A city our hero hates. The story is charming and spicy with an adorable monster/human pairing. Did I mention he likes to eat?

My Summer Girl by Maeve Black

This is poly, queer and super high heat. And yes, I get that the title says summer, but believe me the spring vibes are perfect for it. There’s a queen, some light kidnapping, and three mates that change the course of her life. This one delivers the spice in a small packaging and the cozy world gives the seasonal vibes. Guaranteed to put a smile on your face.

Live Love Lasso by Hazel Mack

When I was putting this post together I realized the Hazel Mack had a new book and the start of a new series. I just knew it had to be on my list. If there is one thing I know I’ll get with Hazel Mack is a quirky town with monsters and found family. This is about a dark elf is investigating a mysterious illness running to the towns animals and it all points to the heroine, new in town with a trail of bad potions behind her. That sounds like the perfect shenanigans to get into.

Dreamy Spring Romance Settings to Escape to This Season

Sometimes the perfect seasonal trope is about a destination, and some just scream spring to me. I don’t make the rules. Well, I do because this is my list.

Spring romance tropes setting

So here’s my short list:

The English Countryside: rolling hills, villages, old inns, and just enough romantic mischief to make you want to stay a little longer and settle in. Try Don’t Let Your Dukes Grow Up to Be Scoundrels by Louisa Darling. This was such an entertaining setup with a duke in hiding working as a barkeep at an old inn.

The South of France: roses, sunshine, and perfect if you’re craving something soft, beautiful, and a little transportive. Try Once Upon a Rose by Laura Florand. It’s a two for one because it’s also a farm and so romantic.

The Carolina Coast: salt air, family drama, second chances, and emotional warmth. Try Carolina Dreaming by Virginia Kantra. Or the whole Dare Island series. This one is perfect if you love Virgin River but needed a bit more ocean.

Lisbon and Coastal Portugal: seaside villages, ocean air, and a setting that feels both restorative and a little windswept. Try Ride the Wave by Katherine Reilly.

Key West: tropical breezes, family drama, fake dating, and an island setting that feels flirty. Try Island Affair by Priscilla Oliveras.

  1. Good call on the spring vibe. I love the flowers, getting out in nature, cozy cottagecore stuff this time of the year, too. I also like the softer, sweeter romances in historical or contemporary this time of the year. Baseball themed sport romances, too.
