15 Queer Fall 2026 Book Releases That Go Full Monster
As we get closer to the leaves starting to turn, so does the reading mood. That means infusing your TBR with some of the queer Fall 2026 book releases that bring dark academia, monsters, horror, and yes, even some of the cozy cute.
Every season I look out for what sounds most exciting from what’s coming out, and these are the 13 books that I think deserve some consideration to be on your TBR because they sound absolutely amazing. Although, I will also vouch for an earlier release from this year which I read recently and I think it’s perfect for the season (Thrall by Rebecca Mahoney). I mean, sapphic college vampires, need I say more? But let me tell you about those new books.

Sapphic Fall 2026 Book Releases
For a second time this year, the seasonal list is way more stacked with sapphic romances that caught my eye. And the great thing is you have a wide range of genres on this list, so no matter your mood you can find something new to fill it.
Take a Chance, Sasha Sinclair by Ashley Herring Blake
This one comes out September 29 and it’s the third in the Clover Lake series. If you’re a Hallmark movie watcher, then I think this one is right up your alley. It’s certainly up mine. Sasha is a sort of wannabe filmmaker and after the death of her parents, actual filmmakers, she decides to go for the dream project they had. To do a documentary about Alice Bishop, the Rose Witch. Her descendant, Margot, is not a witch, even though everyone thinks so and her family runs an occult theme park leaning into those rumors. And now this film and Sasha may be the only thing the town’s financial future (and her family’s) hinges on.
Bloom Town: Genesis by Ally North
This was a Booktok indie sensation being re-released on November 24 via a traditional publisher. I have to admit I never saw this one before but as soon as I came across it, immediately on the TBR. It’s set in 1852 about a preacher’s daughter with a secret who gets kidnapped by an infamous female outlaw and stumbles on a bigger conspiracy behind all that. I think this is such a fresh take on a historical romance and almost makes me think back to the old bodice rippers. So I’m super excited to dive in.
A Spell of Heart & Havoc by Kristen Vale
If your mood is more cozy fantasy instead, then Kristen Vale is a great choice for that coming out September 15. I’ve enjoyed her in the past and this one sounds so good. We have a thief trying to save her ill brother so she infiltrates a noble family as a bodyguard for their spoiled daughter. She in turn is looking for independence. Opposites attract, class differences and a bit of enemies to lovers as well it seems. I think it sounds like a fun romp.
With All My Haunted Heart by Isabel Sterling
Talk about perfect small town witchy fun! This comes out September 8 and it’s the perfect Practical Magic vibe. We have a witch who is struggling with her magic and potion shop because people are going to the cheaper non-magical competition. So in need of money, when her friend asks her to come help his B&B get rid of ghosts, she takes the job. But the co-owner of the B&B actually wants the hauntings increased, not gone. As a marketing tactic. This one is another perfectly cozy Hallmark vibe story and it sounds so cute. I love some cozy B&B charm.
Happily Ever Afterlife by Emma R. Alban
This one I’m highly anticipating because I’ve read Emma R. Alban’s historicals so I can’t wait to try a paranormal romance. It comes out September 29 and it’s pitched as perfect for fans of The Dead Romantics. The heroine is a writer having to fix her manuscript while staying at a haunted building in Manhattan. She meets a few ghost children and then she meets the hot ghost mom. As she starts writing a book about them she has to figure out how to give them all a happily ever after. This would make the best movie!
Gay Fall 2026 Book Releases
Apparently the gay Fall 2026 book releases that caught my eye the most went in a fantasy/romantasy direction! And I’m not too mad at that.
From Beijing, with Love by Bei Lin
But let’s start with a straggler. I get this one may feel a bit more like a summer read, and sometimes release dates should matter for those things. But I still think this one needs a place on your TBR and I had added to mine as soon as I saw it. This one is coming out September 29 and it’s an opposites attract steamy romcom. We’ve got a PhD student moonlighting as tour guide in Beijing and an Amsterdam native who just got dumped by his boyfriend and decides to take an impulse trip to visit his friend. I think this sounds perfect for fans of Casey McQuiston.
Bodies of Magic by Freya Marske
This is one of my most anticipated read on this list. A dark academia meets Grey’s Anatomy out September 15. Mages, a healer’s gift and five day trials to determine your future. Except on day one there’s a dead body of a classmate. It’s a murder mystery while still passing the trials at this magical academy. I’m so sat for this one. It’s like the perfect blend for the season.
The Dragon King by Terry J. Benton Walker
And for the more romantasy girlies with a liking for dragons, don’t miss this one. Out November 10 with a forbidden love story about two princes from rival kingdoms. It sounds perfect for fans of Fourth Wing and Sarah J. Maas, with epic world building, forced proximity and rivals to lovers, black mlm romance and powerful witches.

Strange Lights by Mira González
When I saw that this was Scooby Doo meets The X-Files with a sentient Winnebago, I am there. It sounds like so much fun! Comes out October 6 and we have a paranormal investigator who is the adoptive parent of a toddler Chupacabra teaming up with a podcaster turned werewolf to investigate a rash of UFO’s sightings and crop circle markings. My elder millennial heart is excited in case you didn’t notice.
Sun Chaser by Kacen Callendar
From the author of Felix Ever After, which I loved, comes a tender and moving young adult story, out October 27, about two boys living in St Thomas. Secrets, identity, trauma and what the future will hold are in the minds of both our main characters who develop a deep bond of friendship and beyond. This one sounds like it’ll be a rollercoaster of emotions.
Cemetery Boys: Espiritu by Aiden Thomas
Another trip into the world of Cemetery Boys this time following Julian. This one comes out September 8 and is full of reckless spirits and chaos, plus a dark demon from their past. They are the only ones that can stop them from tearing the world apart. If you want a mix of Latin culture, a bruje and someone talking to spirits, this one should be on your list.
Gothic Queer Fall 2026 Book Releases
And to celebrate the season, I wanted to highlight some that bring even more the vibes you may want this Fall specifically.
A Thousand Monstrous Forms by Saratoga Schaefer
Here’s the pitch: this is a gothic horror Bluebeard retelling with a sapphic romance. Sounds so good! This comes out September 15, and follows an artist marrying a wealthy art dealer and moving into an isolated art filled manor. But then she starts to discover some dark things as she’s left alone in the house in a game of survival.
Rottenheart by Kat Dunn
Coming out October 13, this is also a retelling, a sapphic reimagining of Hamlet. Two best friends since childhood, the death of a mother, an evil aunt, a stepmother, and a ghost. Loving the mother’s revenge and family secrets with a childhood friends to lovers situation.
The Darkness Bites Back by Laura R. Samotin & Ben Alderson
This one is coming out September 29 and it’s a gay Romeo and Juliet inspired story set in modern day Oxford with enemy family vampires and power struggles. I’ve enjoyed Ben Alderson in the past, so I’m looking forward to this one. And it’s also the most Anne Rice pick on this list from my perspective. I think it would also be great for fans of V.E. Schwab.
As the Snow Gathers by Mere Joyce
Out September 1 and bringing the scary forest vibes to the list. It’s set in a Canadian town with two men that live their life in secret and long for escape. The shadowy creatures of the forest are now on the attack and they must fight for survival. This sounds like an old fashioned scary movie. Perfect for Halloween.
Let me tell you about Thrall
Before we go, let me tell you about the sapphic vampires in college book I read recently. Yes, it would be perfect for Fall even though it came out in April.
Thrall by Rebecca Mahoney
If a group of women tracking down a vampire in a college town is your kind of dark academia fun (with fangs), then this book needs to be on your TBR. The heroine goes to her first campus party and wakes up the next day without memory of what happened and two puncture marks. She later discovers, through a campus radio host, that she’s turning into a vampire. And the group of them must track down her sire and fight for her future. This one is a bit new adult vibe, but a fun sapphic take on college vamps.
What’s your perfect fall reading mood?
