February 2026 Book Releases Roundup
February is always a little unhinged in the best way. It’s the month where publishers throw romantasy at your face, dark romance gets extra bold, and suddenly you’re “just sampling the first chapter” at midnight like that’s a normal choice.
This is my curated list of February 2026 book releases – the ones I think are most worth your attention. If you want the complete firehose, skip to the upcoming book releases database. And scroll until the end if you want the perfect pick for your zodiac.

If you read nothing else: my Top 3 February 2026 book releases
If I’m betting on anything this month, it’s Promise Me by Sara Cate, Vanguard by Karina Halle, and Half City by Kate Golden. Promise Me was one of my top reads of 2025 because I read it early, and it’s exactly the kind of premise that will hook until it’s 2 a.m. and you’re emotionally invested in every lingering touch. A second chance romance full of yearning! Vanguard is my basically made for me – dark, obsessive, special ops, and it should probably come with a warning label. And Half City is giving me Buffy + urban fantasy vibes in the most urgent way. Demon hunting, academy training, secrets, it’ll have you binge-reading.
Romantasy February 2026 book releases
For when you want magic, danger, and romance… plus at least one moment where you think “this is going to ruin me.”

The Lies That Summon the Night by Tessonja Odette (2/3)
Art is forbidden. The immortal royals “protect” humanity. And the shadows born from creative work are not just monsters, they’re a death sentence. This is dark romantasy with forbidden art, an alliance you can’t trust, and a vibe that’s lush, dangerous, and deliciously sinful. I’ve only read much lighter books by Ms. Odette and looking forward to seeing this darker side.

Carnival Fantastico by Angela Montoya (2/3)
A runaway poses as a fortune-teller inside a magical traveling carnival to secure her freedom… and then the boy who once broke her heart resurfaces with a warning: the carnival is more sinister than it looks. Expect second chances, glittering magic, and that creeping sense that the whole place is smiling at you because it knows something you don’t.

The Lovers by Kristin Cast (2/10)
A magickal tarot card sends a burnt-out heroine spiraling into a steampunk Kingdom of Cups – where she’s stuck relying on the ex who shattered her trust… and a roguish former king who sees straight through her defenses. It’s light romantasy with tarot magic, banter, heat, and a heroine who refuses to be anybody’s damsel.

Crown of War and Shadow by J.R. Ward (2/17)
A cursed outcast must cross the Badlands to return a crown and convince a fearsome Queen to save their world, so she makes a bargain with a brooding mercenary: one unforgettable night for safe passage. If you like slow burn, high stakes, “touch her and die,” and big sweeping romantasy energy, this is your February pick.

Paranormal, urban fantasy & sci fi February 2026 book releases
For when the world is modern, the monsters are real, and the romance is happening alongside danger, secrets, and survival.

Wicked Onyx by Debbie Cassidy (2/10)
“You don’t graduate Nightsbridge Academy – you survive it.”
A cursed, powerless outcast returns to a ruthless magical academy to uncover the truth behind her bloodline’s downfall… and make the institution that branded them traitors pay. Dark academia, revenge, dangerous alliances, and a curse that starts cracking at the absolute worst time.

Vanguard by Karina Halle (2/12)
A genetically engineered operative has poisonous saliva, aka kissing is lethal, until she meets the only man she can touch without consequence… the enhanced soldier known as Vanguard. Dark romance, special ops infiltration, obsession, and the line between heroes and monsters keeps getting blurrier the closer they get.
Would you like to save this?

Half City by Kate Golden (2/17)
A demon-hunting heroine gets pulled into a school for people like her, and the reformed deviant who recruits her is… inconveniently alluring. It’s giving Buffy + urban fantasy + academy training with mystery threads baked in.
Romance February 2026 book releases
For when you want banter, spice, and emotional payoff without needing a map of the magical realm to follow the plot.

Only Friends by Lydia San Andres (2/10)
An aspiring screenwriter teams up with a gorgeous model to create Regency-era spicy shorts for online fans… and what starts as “business” gets very personal, very quickly. Sexy, charming, and ridiculously fun.

Promise Me by Sara Cate (2/10)
He let him go once. Now he has seven days to get him back before he gets married. Second chances, wedding-week pressure, family expectations, and “the one that got away” walking back into your life when it’s almost too late.

Slaughter Park by Lauren Biel (2/15)
A cam girl with a stalker + a Scottish grump bodyguard + forced proximity + dark humor + danger lurking in the shadows. This is “diet” Lauren Biel, meaning adult themes apply, content warnings exist, and you should read responsibly. But it’s not as dark as some of her other books.
Mystery/thriller February 2026 book releases
For when you want atmosphere and that creeping dread that the safe place isn’t safe anymore.

First Sign of Danger by Kelley Armstrong (2/17)
Casey Duncan and her husband are settling into life as parents in their off-the-grid sanctuary town… until hikers get too close to the border. Then one turns up dead. This series does remote community tension so well and this one looks like it’s coming in with paranoia and survival stakes.
