Contemporary Romance Books Like Black Dagger Brotherhood
If the “Black Dagger Brotherhood” and its crew of brooding, muscle-bound alpha males have left you with a taste for romance that’s as intense as a double-shot espresso, get ready to meet their contemporary counterpart books like Black Dagger Brotherhood. These series trade in the fangs for just as sharp wits and the mystical for the all-too-real, proving that you don’t need supernatural powers to stir up some serious heart-flutters and adrenaline rushes.
Killer Instincts by Elle Kennedy
It may come as no surprise here but I feel like the type of PNR that we get in the BDB series closely resembles a team of ex-military alpha males.ย There’s something about the element of danger, life and death battles, and did I mention the alpha males?ย And what better series to recommend that one of my all time favorites in the genre.ย Military security, female assassins, family and team bonding, sexy times and โฆ yes alpha males!ย LOL
Black Ops Inc by Cindy Gerard
You might be thinking that this series doesnโt sound like it has anything remotely similar to the BDB series, but I can assure you there are plenty similarities. When I first started reading this series, I couldnโt help but think that this seriesโ humor and tone very much reminded me of the BDB. The heroes of this series are all alpha and possessive in their own ways, making me love them even more. Even the banter between all the guys mirrors some of my favorite series in the BDB series. So if youโre looking for a Contemporary setting but with the same level of action and suspense, then hopefully youโll love this series too!
Masters of the Shadowlands by Cherise Sinclair
Since BDB is known for its alpha male heroes, we decided to take it to the extreme and go for a V-themed picked. Sinclairโs Masters of the Shadowlands is filled to the brim with dominant alpha males. The only difference is that there is no paranormal element in this series. But Sinclair makes up for it with the hotter-than-hell sex scenes!

I love the Thirds series.
I love the Thirds series.
I’ve read about half of those series and totally agree that they are great BDB adjacent choices. Someday I’ll get to the others. Can’t wait to read The Beloved.
I wish I had seen this blog earlier. Here’s a self-recommendation for the completed Blood Coven Series by T. M. Smith that is what readers may want to begin after the BDB.
