Autumn Bones Review: I’m Addicted to Daisy

My review of Autumn Bones by Jacqueline Carey, book two of the Agent of Hel series. A twistier, even better sequel, and Daisy is one of my favorite heroines.

Some sequels coast. Autumn Bones is not one of them. This is my review of Autumn Bones, book two in Jacqueline Carey‘s Agent of Hel series, and I came out of it more hooked than I was after the first book, which I did not see coming. Daisy Johanssen has become one of my favorite heroines, the kind I’m half convinced is a real friend I’m a little jealous of. If you loved the lighter, funnier urban fantasy of Dark Currents and you’re wondering whether the series keeps that up, the short answer is that it gets better.

Daisy Is Back, and I’m Addicted

AUTUMN BONES is another unexpected ride, full of ups and downs and a lot more twists than I thought I could handle. I was unprepared by how much I enjoyed this sequel. I am quickly becoming addicted to anything and everything Daisy related. She’s one of my favorite heroines this past year!

Voodoo, a Satyr, and Not One Boring Page

This book is the perfect combination between Daisy’s personal life and romantic messes while dealing with supernatural chaos in Pemkowet. Voodoo, a bit of magic and…a satyr! AUTUMN BONES doesn’t have one page of boring in it! The storyline will keep you on the edge of your seat with all the action, and at the same time it’ll leave you wanting more of it!

The Romance Gets Complicated

On the romance front… it’s complicated! Very complicated. And while this book may come across as Daisy being a bit of a ho-bag, I actually didn’t feel that because I was right there along with her with her choices! I can’t help but feel like Daisy is my friend, whom I’m very jealous of at times. I understand her and admire her, even as I want her life!

Why I’m Hooked on This Series

If you’re tired of all the same old, same old urban fantasy out there then you have to read this series! It’s a breath of fresh air for anyone looking for a less gritty urban fantasy. Jacqueline Carey has me hooked!

That’s My Review on the Back Cover

One more thing! If you flip this original hardcover book over, there’s a line on the back about the first book being unique, entertaining, and a masterpiece. That’s mine. It’s pulled from my review of Dark Currents, and seeing my own words printed on the back of a book I love this much.

Autumn Bones Frequently Asked Questions

Is Autumn Bones a good sequel?

For me it was even better than the first. It is twistier, the romantic mess deepens, and I was more hooked at the end of this one than I was after Dark Currents, which surprised me.

Do I need to read Dark Currents before Autumn Bones?

Yes. Autumn Bones is book two of the Agent of Hel series, so start with Dark Currents and read this one after.

What kind of urban fantasy is the Agent of Hel series?

It’s lighter, funnier, and less gritty. That’s the appeal. If you’re tired of the heavy urban fantasies, this will be a breath of fresh air.

Does the romance get more developed in Autumn Bones?

It does, and it gets complicated. Daisy’s romantic life is a real tangle here, and that mess is half the fun.

Is Autumn Bones the last book in the series?

No. It is the middle book of the Agent of Hel trilogy, followed by Poison Fruit.
