Romanceopoly Fall 2026 Reading Challenge Prompts and Reading Guide

The Romanceopoly Final Frenzy Cup is here and it runs from October through December 2026. That covers spooky season, holiday reading and the end of year TBR scramble. I know when things get busy, reading may fall to the wayside, so use this challenge to still get in some good books.

This is the same setup as every seasonal round of the challenge. Four prompt, three months, and you read one book per prompt or double/triple up if a single book covers more than one. Mood read your way through it. No pressure.

If you’re new around here, Romanceopoly is our yearly romance reading challenge and it’s a great excuse to shop your shelves and read the books that may have been lingering on your TBR for years.

In this guide I’m breaking down all four Final Frenzy Cup prompts, sharing my recommendations for each one and telling you what I plan to read myself.

How the Romanceopoly Fall 2026 Reading Challenge Works

This seasonal reading challenge runs from October through December 2026 (although you can do it anytime you want) and includes four prompts. The goal is to have fun, try something new and maybe get some books off your existing TBR. Nobody is coming to grade you.

A few things to know:

• You do not need to be doing the yearly Romanceopoly reading challenge to join this one. But if you want to find out what that’s all about, I would love to have you.
• Want to track your progress? Join the Final Frenzy Cup challenge on StoryGraph and check off each prompt as you read. You do not need it to play along, but it is a fun, no pressure way to keep score and browse the books other readers are adding for inspiration.
• Prefer something you can hold? The free printable and digital resources include the Final Frenzy Cup challenge cards, a booklet with one page list of the prompts, and more. This way you can play along on paper or your note taking app on your tablet.
• The most you will have to read in three months is four books. You can read less if you find one that fits multiple prompts.
• Community recommendations are part of the fun, so if you already have your picks or your recs, share it in the comments or join the community (more on that below).

Fall 2026 Reading Challenge Prompts at a Glance

Here are the four Final Frenzy Cup prompts for this round of Romanceopoly, and then I’ll give you some recommendations to start.

1. Courtship Crossover: Read a genre mashup romance like historical fantasy, paranormal regency OR a dual timeline romance.
2. Full Moon Free Throw: Read a book that features secret societies, ancient curses or forbidden knowledge
3. Breakdown Blitz: Read a romance where one or both leads are struggling emotionally, psychologically or morally.
4. Field of Feels: Read a romance where love is the safe space (trauma recovery, found family or emotional healing)

Now let’s get into the fun part. The book recs.

Courtship Crossover: Genre Mashup or Dual Timelines

We open the Final Frenzy Cup by mixing genres, which is one of my favorite things. So many examples can fall into this, historical fantasy or paranormal regency is a popular one for sure lately. Steampunk as a genre at face value is already a mashup. Then we have dual timelines, which can show up in lots of different ways in romances too. It can be a then and now thing, but also time slips and time travel. Lots of choices for this one. If you have ever wanted a ballroom in Regency England but with vampires or a second chance with a then and now, those both fit here. My recommendations for Courtship Crossover

• Immortal Rose by Alexandra Bracken, regency meets fantasy romance and one of my favorites of the year. Check out some of my favorite quotes from it.
• Soulless by Gail Carriger, historical romance meets urban fantasy and this one doesn’t get talked about enough. My original review when I read this is here.
• Kiss of Steel by Bec McMaster, steampunk so its historical romance meets paranormal romance and one of the OG choices for genre mashups. Check also the review for that.
• Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren, dual timeline and emotional (here’s my review of Love and Other Words)
• Him by Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy, dual timeline and an addictive friends to lovers kind of second chance (also check my review of Him)

What I’m reading for this prompt: Bonetide by Karina Halle. It is Galloway inherits her great-aunt’s cottage on a remote Scottish loch with one condition: she has to live there for a full year to claim it. Then a man who swims in the loch at night shows up at her door, soaking wet and asking to come inside. The locals are warning her about a murderer and her aunt’s letters keep telling her to lay salt lines and lock the doors. It starts out as a cozy gothic mystery and goes dark gothic horror romance, which sounds perfect for Fall. If you haven’t read her yet, check out my Karina Halle reading guide.

Full Moon Free Throw: Secret societies, ancient curses or forbidden knowledge

Now this one is all about those secret clubs with hooded initiations and locked archives, a bit of conspiracy or family curses that need breaking. My recommendations for these are leaning more to the secret societies because I love to read books with those in them.

My recommendations for Full Moon Free Throw

• Half Truths by Claire Contreras, she’s trying to uncover the truth about college murders. Here’s my review of Half Truths.
• Pink Ink by Avina St. Graves, she’s following a serial killer and finds a secret society assassin.
• Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo, a classic, magic involved in secret societies at Ivy League colleges.
• Nocticadia by Keri Lake, she’s investigating the disease that killed her mother. Here’s my review of Nocticadia.

I’ll be catching up for this prompt and reading Poisoned Ivy by Ava Rani. This was our August pick for the Romanceopoly Study Sessions and I missed it (maybe on purpose so I could read it now?). I’ll be catching up and double dipping. Malena is living two lives. At home, she’s the dutiful daughter under her parent’s watch, but at her Ivy League university she’s a risk taker. When her tutoring money dries up, she goes after a journalism contest prize by investigating the most exclusive secret society on Campus.

Breakdown Blitz: Main characters are struggling (emotionally, psychologically or morally)

This one is the heavy hitter for the season. A romance where one or both leads are carrying some guilt or grief, mental health representation and more.

My recommendations for Breakdown Blitz

• The Wicker King by K. Ancrum, psychological YA thriller where one MC experiences hallucinations of a fantasy kingdom and the other is a bit of a pyro.
• Beard Science by Penny Reid, she’s blackmailing the master manipulator. Here’s our review of Beard Science.
• The Ones Who Got Away by Roni Loren, the psychological aftermath of a school shooting. Here’s my review of The Ones Who Got Away.

On my TBR for this prompt: Bride of Stone by Lisette Marshall. I love The Death-Made Prince, so I’ve been anxiously awaiting this one. It’s a standalone romantasy set in the same world, thirty years earlier. A powerless princess married off to a vicious nobleman, and the bodyguard delivering her to the altar.

Field of Feels: Found family, trauma recovery, emotional healing

We close out the Cup with something soft that feels like a comforting hug. This will put everything back together. If you need more, check out these comfort books to cozy up with this winter.

• Wolfsong by T.J. Klune
• Blue-Eyed Devil by Lisa Kleypas

On my TBR for this prompts I’ll be reading Quiet Types by L.H. Cosway, book one in the Quiet Love series. It starts with a woman noticing a mysterious man watching her on the bus. Cosway has a way of delivering that connection and healing every single time.
