13 Queer Summer 2026 Book Releases I’m Obsessed With
The queer summer 2026 book releases worth clearing your TBR for: sapphic swoons, cozy gay fantasy, and the debuts I can’t stop thinking about. Find yours.

June means Pride, and Pride means the shelves we are ready to celebrate the joy in representation across the spectrum. Summer is a bubbling time to read queer romances, so I went digging and pulled together the best queer summer 2026 book releases I’m most excited about, across romance, fantasy, and everything in between.
Here’s how this list works. Instead of sorting by genre, I sorted by representation. Sapphic, gay, trans and nonbinary leads. Jump to whatever you’re in the mood for. And two of these I’d hand you before you even finished asking.

Sapphic Summer 2026 Releases
Sapphic is where this list runs deepest this summer. I have seven of them, and stopping at seven took restraint. It’s so exciting to see sapphic romance representation grow more each year and some of these sound like total bangers!

Long Island Girls by Gabrielle Korn
Contemporary romance / women’s fiction · June 23, 2026
The millennial in me just couldn’t help but be excited about a book set in 2005 and about the indie music scene. The nostalgia alone makes you want to read this, doesn’t it? Set from Long Island to Brooklyn, going to concerts, and honestly just reliving the “good old days”. I feel old, but I can’t pass it up.
I Kissed Her First by Betty Cayouette
Contemporary romance · August 25, 2026
Celebrity romances are definitely my thing in the summer and a foodie romance on top of that? I’m in heaven. An aspiring chef takes a position as a private chef and goes on tour with a popstar for her European tour. I’ll be sat for this one because the armchair travel and the food alone are worth it for me.
For the Bride by Becca Grischow
Contemporary romance · June 2, 2026
It’s wedding season and we couldn’t miss adding a wedding themed romance to this list. Especially when it’s an enemies to lovers! YES! Our main characters don’t really like each other but they are both bridesmaid and maid of honor and have to work together to plan the wedding of their friend. Chaos ensues. I’ve seen this comp for fans of Emily Henry, so you know it will be perfect for the summer.
In What World by Bridget Morrissey
Contemporary romance · August 11, 2026
As an Aquarius, this one is tailor-made for me. We have two high school nemesis who reunite as adults to investigate the disappearance of their teacher. They end up having to go through alternate realities. So fun and you have to wonder if they are actually together in one of those realities? Bridget Morrissey is a staple for the season. Her sapphic camp romance, That Summer Feeling, is on my list of the best queer summer books.

The Guest Book by Mae Marvel
Contemporary/Women’s Fiction · June 2, 2026
This story brings the charm and heart of family and the beautiful setting of an English country village (and beyond) as a Hollywood princess decides to finish her late mother’s bucket list. Except she meets a woman that is her complete opposite and pushes her out of her comfort zone. I love stories about grief and experiencing the past through something like a guest book at an inn and embarking on an adventure. It sounds delightful, emotion and heartwarming.
The Secret World of Briar Rose by Cindy Pham
Fantasy · June 2, 2026
I have been following Cindy Pham since her early days of Booktube and I’m just so excited for her. It’s a queer Sleeping Beauty retelling that talks about grief and dreams of a better world. I mean, I’m all for this. I’m a sucker for retellings!
A Star Cursed Heart by Annie Mare
Fantasy · May 19, 2026
I know this one released just before Summer, but I couldn’t leave it out of this list. First, look at that cover! It’s gorgeous. But also, I’ve really enjoyed Annie Mare’s cozy mysteries and can’t wait to read her fantasy about two mortal enemies whose families were cursed in the lead up to the Salem witch trials. Now 400 years later, they join forces to face the true danger that has threatened their families for centuries. If this doesn’t sound like the most Romeo and Juliet thing, I don’t know what is.
Gay Summer 2026 Releases
Four gay romance books this summer, running from contemporary all the way to cozy fantasy. There’s some amazing fantasy ones, you’ll see.

Would you like to save this?
The Open Era by Edward Schmidt
Contemporary romance · June 2, 2026
We are coming off a high with the French Open and we are keeping things up with the World Cup this year, so sports are on my mind. And what better book to read than about two rivals playing the same sport, depicting mental illness along the way of their relationship, and the weight of the career expectations.

A Prince Among Pirates by Katie Abdou
YA fantasy · June 16, 2026
I fell in love with this cover from the moment I saw it a while back, so young adult or not, this was going on my TBR. But it’s exactly perfect for the season because pirates, seafaring and swashbucklers is all I want (and you should too). What a fun ride we are going to go on!
Nemesis Mine by Amy Archer
Cozy fantasy · June 23, 2026
This cozy fantasy is giving me life just from the blurb. This promises an enemies to reluctant allies to lovers with a golden retriever/black cat duo. And a villain that is spending more time embroidering pillow cases! I need to know more, immediately. Oh and there’s a fake feud to boost their reputations too. I’m just sold by whatever is happening in this one. It sounds delightfully cozy.
Bromantasy by Máire Roche
Cozy fantasy · May 26, 2026
Two best friends embark on a quest to kill a monster and through that forced proximity their feelings for each other are no longer possible to hide. I personally love a cute friends to lovers, and even more if there’s a quest.
Trans & Nonbinary Leads Summer 2026 Releases
The trans and nonbinary leads are definitely delivering the fun for this summer even though it’s a smaller list.

But I Hate Him by Page Powars
YA contemporary, trans lead · August 25, 2026
This is a queer young adult academic rivals romcom set at the most competitive camp. One is academic royalty as the heir of a tutoring company and the other is hockey royalty that wins at everything without trying. I couldn’t look away from the beautiful cover, but the premise had me staying and it’s also blurbed by Casey McQuiston so you know it’s going to be a fun ride!
Puck by Samantha Allen
Contemporary, nonbinary lead · June 2, 2026
This is A Midsummer Night’s Dream inspired romcom. I don’t think I need to get past the Shakespeare retelling of it all, do I? But it’s another wedding season entry on this list and sounds delightful. Sometimes you have to save your friend from the terrible mistake of going through with a marriage. Even if you are at a beautiful resort in the Appalachian forest during the wedding festivities. On a side note too, I love that we also have a tie in to reality tv/dating shows.

Queer Summer 2026 Romance FAQ
What are the best queer book releases for summer 2026?
I personally would add Puck, Nemesis Mine and In What World to your TBR first.
Where should I start with sapphic romance?
I Kissed Her First is such an easy breeze pick for the summer because it gives you romance but also some armchair travel to get lost in.
Are there queer fantasy and romantasy releases this summer?
Yes, there are certainly lots of queer fantasy and romantasy out this summer. You can start with A Star Cursed Heart or Bromantasy from this list.
Are any of these young adult?
Two of them are actually. A Prince Among Pirates and But I Hate Him are both young adult. But remember, adults also read young adult so don’t let that steer you away.
Final Thoughts
That’s the queer summer 2026 lineup. Not complete, but my most anticipated reads for the season that just scream summer reading. Let me know in the comments which one you’re reading/adding first. I think the first for me will have to be Nemesis Mine although my millennial brain says Long Island Girls.
Want the rest of what summer’s bringing? My summer romance releases and summer mystery, thriller and horror releases round out the season, and of course don’t miss the Summer Personal Curriculum which gives you a whole reading plan. For queer reads that never go out of season, here’s last year’s queer summer releases and the evergreen best queer summer books list.
