In this episode, we break down the angst, the worldbuilding glow-up, and the moment everyone whispers about in One Foot in the Grave by Jeaniene Frost.

What is One Foot in the Grave about?
Cat has built a life hunting rogue vampires, but walking away from Bones still haunts her. When assassination attempts ramp up, she’s forced to face old wounds and new threats. With vampire society closing in, Cat needs answers fast, allies she can trust, and maybe the one vampire she never stopped loving.
One Foot in the Grave by Jeaniene Frost Book Review
This review was originally posted on Under the Covers on September 20, 2013.
It has been four years since Cat Crawfield saved her vampire lover Bones’ life by walking away. The Government have now given her charge of her own unit of men who hunt and destroy rogue vampires, but she can’t let go of Bones, no matter how much she tries. But with an increased amount of assassination attempts on her, she may need his help to sniff out the culprit.
The ending of Halfway to the Grave tore my heart out and the beginning of One Foot in the Grave didn’t help restore it as we watch Cat live with the consequences of her decision to leave Bones. But that is part of what I love about this series the emotional highs and lows, it gets me completely caught up in whatever Cat is thinking and feeling.

Would you like to save this?
Another reason to love this book, the infamous Chapter 32, which is exactly as hot as its reputation makes it out to be and also an excellent “How To” guide on how to get your boyfriends ex off your back:
“Do it your way, but I suggest another one. You could go ahead and beat her bloody, or…you could give me such loud, screaming orgasms that the sound of them blisters her ears. If you have any former-whore-turned-promiscuous-vampire tricks you’ve been holding back, well, bring them on. I only have one stipulation: You’d better outperform any service you gave to her or anyone else, because if I don’t wake up tomorrow red in the face from embarrassment at what you did to me, I’ll be disappointed.”
But aside from Cat and Bones One Foot in the Grave also builds up the Night Huntress world as we learn about vampires and see intimately just how the brutal undead society is. We are also introduced to new characters who become a staple of the this series, such as Mencheres and Ian.
This book is just as good as the first, full of pulse pounding action, some hot and dirty vampire lovin’ it kept me hooked till the very last word.

About the Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost
The Night Huntress series is Cat and Bones at the center, with a growing cast of fan favorite vampires, allies, enemies, and general chaos agents. Book 2 is where the world cracks open wider: more rules, more danger, more politics, and higher emotional stakes than ever warned you about.
Final Thoughts
If book one lit the fuse, One Foot in the Grave by Jeaniene Frost is the part where everything starts exploding in bigger, messier ways. The romance hurts, the world gets sharper, and the series starts flexing its long game muscles. Tell me your truth: did Chapter 32 altered your brain forever, or are you here for the vampire politics?
