The Mindf*ck Series by S.T. Abby is one of those rare bookish black holes, you pick up book one “just to see what the hype’s about” and suddenly you’ve lost two days of your life, your coffee is cold, and you’re not sure if you should call your therapist or start a fan club.
I don’t binge-read series anymore. Like… at all. There are so many new releases, ARCs, and shiny distractions that even when I love a book, I usually hop to something else before circling back. The last time a series forced me into an obsessive tunnel was almost a decade ago with the Experiment in Terror series by Karina Halle. And after the Mindfuck series? Nothing else has done it again. That’s how rare this feeling is.
I started book one on October 8, 2021, and by October 10, I had finished book five. Two and a half days. I basically read while brushing my teeth, while making coffee, while life tried to interrupt me. Spoiler: life lost. Except work, that still had to be done.

What is the Mindf*ck Series Actually About?
At face value, Lana Myers looks like your classic small-town coffee shop heroine. Sweet. Unassuming. The kind of FMC you’d expect to get stuck in a fake-dating romcom. Except… no. Lana is a serial killer on a mission to burn down the people who destroyed her childhood.
Enter Logan Bennett, an FBI profiler who literally hunts killers for a living. Instead of catching her, he catches feelings. And we, the readers, sit here clutching our Kindles like: sir… sir, this is the worst idea you’ve ever had, but also please don’t stop.
Five short books later, you’re emotionally wrecked, morally compromised, and telling your friends you “need something light” after, like a cozy mystery about cat detectives.
These books read like one continuous fever dream, equal parts romance, thriller, trauma recovery, and oh-yeah-did-I-mention graphic vigilante justice? And you do need to read them in order.
My Mindf*ck Series by S.T. Abby Review
Yes, I devoured this series. It’s the kind of dark romance that has you staying up way too late telling yourself “just one more chapter.” And in a weird way, it’s also a great starter dark romance. I know that may sound weird, but the vibe is definitely easy to digest even if you haven’t read dark romance before. Let me break this down.
Lana: The Dexter We Deserved
Let’s be real: Lana is the reason this series works. She feels like the female answer to Dexter, complicated, dangerous, violent, and yet the deeper you go, the more you empathize.
You know those characters that do bad things but the writing twists you up so hard you start justifying it? That’s Lana. She becomes a mirror you hold up to your own morals, forcing you to ask: “Wait, am I actually rooting for her to do this?” Spoiler: yes. Yes you are.
Revenge is a dish best served cold… Now that I agree with. It means they forget you’re coming for them, and their screams sound so much prettier when the time finally comes.
She embodies female rage in a way we rarely see in fiction. Women in books are usually the victims who rise above it, who heal and forgive. Lana doesn’t forgive. She overcomes by taking revenge and justice into her own hands. She thrives by dismantling everything that hurt her. Burning it all to the ground even if it takes her down in the process. And that hits different.
For me, Lana is one of those characters who lingers. I was more disturbed by the horrors of her backstory than by her actual kills. By the end, I wasn’t horrified by her methods, I was satisfied.
Logan: The FBI Golden Boy Who Fell for Her
And then there’s Logan. Yes, he’s hot. Yes, he’s ultimately a cinnamon roll with a badge. He’s a good guy. But what makes him fascinating is that he’s not the morally grey hero, Lana is. He’s the straight-laced FBI profiler who suddenly finds himself making compromises because he’s in love with the woman he should be arresting. And he understands her, much like we do.
Normally, we get morally grey men paired with morally “pure” heroines. Mindf*ck flips that. Logan becomes the supporting act to Lana’s story, the man who has to wrestle with his own values while standing beside a woman who refuses to be a victim. Watching his arc unfold is like watching a man try to keep a candle lit in a hurricane, it’s heartbreaking, messy, and unforgettable.

The Reading Experience
These books are short. Or maybe they just felt short because I inhaled them like oxygen. Each one ends on a cliffhanger so sharp it basically dares you to stop. I couldn’t. That weekend in October, the world could’ve ended outside my window and I wouldn’t have noticed until I finished the last word.
And that’s the thing, this series doesn’t just entertain. It consumes. It’s gruesome, it’s shocking, it’s emotionally brutal, and it’s addictive in a way that most books just aren’t anymore.
