What happens when your biggest heartbreak isn’t romantic, but your family? Regretting You by Colleen Hoover dives into the messy, beautiful, often brutal dynamic between a mother and daughter trying to find each other again after everything falls apart. It’s a read that straddles romance and women’s fiction, and one that’ll leave a mark.

What is Regretting You by Colleen Hoover about?

Here’s the heart of it: Regretting You by Colleen Hoover follows Morgan and Clara, a mother and daughter torn apart by grief, secrets, and the aftermath of tragedy. As their world unravels, so does their relationship… until love, loss, and unexpected connections force them to face each other and themselves. It’s a story about rebuilding, forgiving, and finding identity after everything crashes.

What genre is Regretting You?

When reading a Colleen Hoover book, sometimes it’s difficult to classify it. Like with this one. I’ve seen it as a contemporary romance, but to me it leans a little more on the Women’s Fiction genre with a good dose of romance in it. Hopefully that helps with expectations going in.

Regretting You by Colleen Hoover Book Review

This is an emotional rollercoaster and one I just couldn’t put down.  It’s one of those addictive books that keeps you begging for more.  More answers, more healing.  My favorite aspect of this book is the fact that it shows the great strength that one woman can have and the lengths she will go to protect her family.  I have nothing but admiration for Morgan and every step of the way I wanted to see her happy.  Not only in a relationship but with herself.  She had her daughter when she was very young and she put herself and her wants in the back burner for so long it’s difficult to see herself as anything other than wife or mother.

But you shouldn’t go looking for more than that on what this book is about. Trust me. It’s a powerfully addictive story in a way that only Colleen Hoover’s talent with words and portrayal of human emotion can do justice.

I’ve said before that I tend to love Ms. Hoover’s more adult books, meaning with more mature characters, than her new adult ones.  But this book managed to combine both of those worlds by giving us two protagonists.  And it did it spectacularly well.  It’s my favorite book of this month and definitely one of my favorites of the year.
