Welcome to Under the Covers After Dark week, it’s one of our favourite times on the blog as we devote entirely to our favourite genres: Paranormal Romance (PNR) and Urban Fantasy (UF). For most of us, PNR and UF are the genres that got us into romance, so it’s always a lot of fun to spend some time to appreciate it. This year we’ve decided to combine our love of this genre with a problem all of us have been having lately…PNR/UF book slumps.

I blame the slumps of a bad case of nostalgia, when we first started reading we have a gourmet feast of books that we could dive into, everything was new and delicious and we gorged ourselves. Now, it’s the end of that feast and it feels like we are gnawing on old well-used bones, there’s nothing new to entice our appetite. So, we’ve take a new approach, we are going divide each day by our favourite PNR/UF beastie, look at one of our original favourites which features that particular creature and find a more recent book; a kind of if-you-loved-this-you-will-love-this deal.

Today, we are going primal and looking at shifters. Cat, wolf, bear, dragon and every other animal you can think of (I think I once read a short story about a hamster!) we love a shifter romance. So, we are taking a look at the series that we have loved and the newer titles that we have falled for.

So, if you love these series – and if you haven’t read them, you need check them out….

These are the series that had us head over heels for shifters, some of these series have finished and some are still going and we eagerly anticipate each new release. So, if you like the above books, then you are bound to enjoy these…

What are your favourite shifter romances? Have we missed anything out?

You missed the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews and Colbana Files series by JC Daniels.
I’ve only read 2 of the series you’ve posted but I’m calling 2016 the PNR/urban fantasy year for me since I have just started reading a lot of the older established series.

Yay! Love those ones you listed (I’ve read all, but 3 of those series. I see Amy beat me to mentioning Kate Daniels, but I’ll also add Eileen Wilks’ World of the Lupi, Ceci Robson’s Weird Girls (though the shifters aren’t exactly the main characters), Kresley Cole’s Immortals After Dark shifters, Mell Eight’s Supernatural Consultant series and Kendall McKenna’s werewolfs, Paige Tyler’s X-Ops, Mary Calmes’ Change of Heart. Katie Reus’ Darkness series, Shawntelle Madison’s Coveted, and Kelly Meade’s Cornerstone Run trilogy. LOL, I’ll stop there. Can you tell I love the shifters? 🙂

Shelly Laurenston also writes an over-the-top dragon shifter series under the name of G.A. Aiken that is a really fun read. Also, in addition to the Mercy Thompson series, Patricia Briggs’ Alpha/Omega series, set in the same world but featuring a different werewolf couple, is fantastic. Finally, I’d recommend Anne Bishop’s The Others series and Thea Harrison’s Elder Races series.

Kate daniels, patricia briggs, judy teel, linsey hall, eileen wilks, kelley armstrong to name a few

I love Christine Feehan’s Leopard People series
