I’ve been feeling down on Paranormal Romance (PNR) at the moment, I can never find a new good one to get stuck in to! So, I rely quite heavily on my rereads to keep the PNR love alive, this Top Ten is a celebration of my favourite PNR couples, the ones that got me reading the genre in the first place and the ones I always go back for more of. I have also included Urban Fantasy (UF) couples as well, so, basically any book where things go bump in the night!
Maggie & Wren
Unleash the Night (Dark Hunter #8 Were Hunter #2)
by Sherrilyn Kenyon
I love Wren. I know this is meant to be about couples, and I do love Wren and Maggie together, they are pretty damn adorable! But, Wren, my heart breaks for you and my loins ache for you (are women supposed to have aching loins?)!
Lucien & Anya
The Darkest Kiss (Lords of the Underworld #2)
by Gena Showalter
Solemn, scarred Lucien, possessed by the Demon of Death and fun lovin’ goddess of Anarchy Anya. What a combination! It may be one of the earlier Lord of the Underworld books, but it is still a favourite, Anya and Lucien are just so compelling. Unexpected and delightful, whenever I read them together it leaves me with a smile on my face.
Sienna & Hawk
Kiss of Snow (Psy Changeling #10)
by Nalini Singh
We had to wait a hella of a long time for these two, mainly so that Sienna was legal and it didn’t make poor Hawk look like a big ole pervert. But, the wait was worth it. Hawk and Sienna fit together perfectly and are, quite rightly, one of the most iconic couples in the Psy-Changeling series.
Reaver & Harvester
Reaver (Lords of Deliverance #5)
by Larissa Ione
This is a story of sacrifice and undying love. It was beautiful to see them finally get an HEA after the heart ache they’ve had to endure. Harvester proved to be a selfless heroine, sacrificing herself and what others might see her as for the ultimate good of the man she loved. And Reaver, well he’s the type of hero I swoon over. Tough, in charge, maybe a dash of clueless. Even when he’s fighting the attraction he makes my knees weak.
“You were always the one.”
Raphael & Elena
from the Guild Hunter Series
by Nalini Singh
One powerful, barely humane archangel and a hunter with a tragic past and more guilt than you can shake a stick at? Not something you think could work, but Singh, as usual pulls it off beautifully. I love Elena and Rapheal, they bring out the strengths in one another and fiercley protect eachother’s weaknesses.
Mac & Barrons
from the Fever series
by Karen Marie Moning
I didn’t want to put these guys on here…but Annie made me. Personally, I detest everything about Barrons, but quite like Mac. However, Annie informs me that they are amazing, personally I think Mac could do better.
Lothaire & Elizabeth
from Lothaire (Immortals After Dark #13)
by Kresley Cole
Who else started reading the IAD series, never expecting Lothaire to get all lovey dovey? You don’t let the bad guy fall in love and have a HEA – oh wait Kresley Cole just did. And thank goodness for that! Lothaire and Elizabeth, his Lizvetta, the prince and the hill billy. Whodda thunk it? Well Cole did and it was a good thought, never has opposites attract been so romantic, funny and damn sexy.
“What is this? Be like you were with me the oher times! When you melted for me.”
“That was before I fully understood what a nasty piece of work you are.”
“Because of a few shifter beheadings? Come on, Lizvetta, it’s not as if I went round cock slapping gnomes.”
Cat & Bones
from Night Huntress series
by Jeaniene Frost
One of my favourite ass kicking duos! Cat and Bones manage to bring the heat not only in the bedroom but the battlefield as well. And of course, there aren’t many books where you can refer to one chapter and people know EXACTLY what you mean. Chapter 32 anybody?
“Do it your way, but I suggest another one. You could go ahead and beat her bloody, or…you could give me such loud, screaming orgasms that the sound of them blisters her ears. If you have any former-whore-turned-promiscuous-vampire tricks you’ve been holding back, well, bring them on. I only have one stipulation: You’d better outperform any service you gave to her or anyone else, because if I don’t wake up tomorrow red in the face from embarrassment at what you did to me, I’ll be disappointed.”
John Matthew & Xhex
from Lover Mine (Black Dagger Brotherhood #8)
by J.R. Ward
I had to think long and hard about which BDB couple to put in this, otherwise it would be Top Ten BDB couples rather than PNR couples. But JM and Xhex, they occupy a special place in my heart. They fought so hard, both against their love and for it and have taken me on a rollercoaster ride of emotions; tears, laughter, lust, love, anger (I admit JM could be whiny) but I have enjoyed every word.
Some things are destined to be — it just takes us a couple of tries to get there.
Kate & Curran
from the Kate Daniels series
by Ilona Andrews
I may be bias, in fact, I KNOW I am, but screw it, this is my list. But I love these guys, Curran needs someone to mock the arrogance out of him occasionally and Kate specialises in saying stupidly brave (or just stupid) things to people who can grind her in to dust. Perfect fit. Plus, I just love them, did I mention that?

Those were my favourite PNR/UF couples, who are yours?
- Battered Hearts series by Kele Moon - January 24, 2023
- Meet the Chase Brothers by Lauren Dane - January 23, 2023
- It’s magical at Friday Harbor by Lisa Kleypas - January 10, 2023
Good list….love #1!
You named every single one of my favorite series, although maybe not the couples themselves (I prefer Rhage over JM)!
Hi there 🙂 just wanted to let ya know the quote for Cat, and Bones? It’s from book 2 (didn’t know if you were just doing that couples first book together or not haha)
Ps: I adore all of these couples! Good list 🙂
I love all those couples. I can think of a few more, the name Talin comes to mind, but this is your list. I have to disagree with you about Barrons. Maybe Mac could do better, like with a Fae prince who seems to care too much but turns out to be totally evil in the end? I personally think it’s Barrons blaring yet totally honest flaws that make him so irresistible. He hasn’t ever pretended to be someone he is not and he doesn’t apologize for it either. He’s like a wild animal, dangerous, yet you pretty much know… Read more »
Well said, Peggy! And I have to agree with everything you said 😉 ~ Annie
Love your couples here. Your number one couple is my number one couple as well. Curran and Kate are a great couple. I agree with most of your other couples but I would one of those couples for Mercy and Adam. Great List.
Excellent post.. I agree with many of these.. I think I am going to have to do a list of my own..
I personally think Reaver and Harvester should be # 2. Chloe Neill’s Ethan Sullivan and Merit should be # 1!!!!! And I don’t really care who knows my age – I just turned 60 and I worked hard to earn every one of those years.
Great list! Although, Mac makes me grind my teeth I dislike her so. And Barrons truly deserves better. 🙂 Mercy & Riley or Sasha & Lucas would be pretty high on my list, with Cats & Bones as my #1.
