Each of us girls have very definite tastes here at Under the Covers. We know what we like and we get excited about sharing this with you. We can’t help but share when our favourite books are coming out and want to share the joy with as many people as we can. And this is one of the ways we want to do it. Each month we will give you our pick of the bunch, the cream of the crop, the top shelf books! Basically, the ones that we are just itching to get our hands on. The kind of books where the year wait is always worth it; where you may have drawn plans to go a little Kathy Bates, but with less sledgehammer action and more hot cups of tea and custard creams – we don’t want to scare the muse away after all. These are the books we are just dying to get our hands on next month!
[new-release title=”Haunted Blade” author=”J.C. Daniels”]
This is a book that I have been looking forward to for ages! I love the Kit Colbana series, it’s just the type of UF I love; full of action, politics and an amazing heroine. Haunted Blade was a good addition to this series that had me glued to the pages as I anticipated what trouble would crop up next and what one of my favourite heroines would do about it. But, this series isn’t just all ass kicking in the requisite leather and a pointy sword, Daniels also gives this an emotional depth that can be missing in other series. Definitely a top shelf read and a series you should pick up if you haven’t already.
[new-release title=”Without Merit” author=”Colleen Hoover”]
The last book I read by Colleen Hoover reignited my love for her writing, so I didn’t hesitate to pick up WITHOUT MERIT even when I saw that the main character was a teenager in high school. YA Contemporary is not usually my thing but IF I read it, it has to be with a meaningful topic. Colleen Hoover is really good at digging into her characters emotions and by way of that making us think about a situation from different points of view. I believe she achieved that with this book. Without Merit made me think about the importance of perspective, how things are not always necessarily how one thinks, or how they appear, and that we should learn to weight that in when we allow outside circumstances to rule our emotions. It’s a light approach to the subject of mental health, and I think it was done in a way that will be accessible to readers both young and adult. And as a bonus, the writing is addictive! You won’t want to put this one down.

THIRDS agent Dexter J. Daley can’t wait to marry his fiancé, Team Leader Sloane Brodie, but first he’s looking forward to celebrating his bachelor party—which he intends to be a shenanigans-free evening of getting his groove on with family and friends.
Of course events don’t work out as planned, but for Dex that’s nothing new. One thing is for sure, dodging drug dealers and hired thugs amid booze, dancing—and even a bear costume—will guarantee it’s a night Dex will never forget. Now he just needs to survive all the fun.
***
Enjoy this bonus story from the THIRDS universe. These events occur between Darkest Hour Before Dawn and Tried & True in the series timeline. While reading this story would enhance your experience of the THIRDS series, it is not necessary to read before Tried & True.
Although this story might just be a novella, it certainly packs a punch. Brimming with humor and mischief, this book is everything you expect a party to be like. Dex and Sloane are tying the knot very soon but before the wedding is another important event – the bachelor party! You can expect A LOT of fooling around and joking in this book so it’s a perfect read for loyal fans of the series. I guarantee that you will enjoy this short if you’re a fan of the series because these boys just don’t have a limit.
[new-release title=”The Trouble with Twelfth Grave” author=”Darynda Jones”]
In this installment, Grim Reaper/Investigator, Charley Davidson is looking for the person responsible for attacking humans sensitive to the supernatural world. A hard task if she can’t get any clues much less see anyone in the security cameras. Charley is also tackling the return of her husband Reyes, AKA the son of Satan, who is not quite himself. He’s bigger, meaner, sexier, and Charly doesn’t know what do do with him. The ante is up and Charley is left with little choice but to make the hardest decision she will ever make.
I’m going to be honest, when I first received the print ARC for this book, I thought it was too thin. I thought this book is not as long as the others and I was afraid it will not have the same impact as the previous books. I should’ve known better though. Darynda came through and delivered another installment that’s packed with humor, mystery, and emotions that will leave you in awe. This book floored me. I promise you, by the end of this book, you’ll be left with your mouth open as well.
If you haven’t read this series yet, I would like to just ask “why the hell not?” If you like Urban Fantasy, I would really urge you to do so. This series has funny characters, mystery, suspense, sexy hero, snarky heroine, and an amazing storyline. What more could you ask for?
What book are you most anticipating next month?

Great list, they are all on my wishlist but Charlie Cochet and Darynda Jones are my most anticipated.
Without Merit is definitely an October anticipated read. I’m reading mainly physical books in October and am starting Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton series (encouraged by Staci Hart’s Recent Snapchat read-a-long).
