I just got to open almost 3 weeks worth of book mail and one of my most anticipated books of the rest of 2019 was there (WICKED BITE by Jeaniene Frost). I may have to drop all my reading plans and just read that tomorrow.

I finished A MADNESS OF SUNSHINE by Nalini Singh for #spookathon on the plane today (which means I’ve completed 2 books for it and hit all the challenges). It’s soooo good! You have to try this new genre from Nalini. The mystery was great, and there’s a tiny small romance in it.

We're both making good progress with the books we picked out. I will say I'm finishing up YEAR ONE by Nora Roberts (a buddy read I did with @pnrbookloverreviews) and I may be in the small minority here (and Suzanne may want to throttle me) but I'm not loving the book. There's a lot of meandering with nothing happening. I mean, it's the end of the world! Is it too much to ask for some death, gore and destruction? I always enjoy Nora's writing style but for some reason it's so different in this book or maybe it's just the plot development, I'm just not interested enough. It's a really cool concept though.⁠

On the other hand... A MADNESS OF SUNSHINE by Nalini Singh. All you thriller readers will want to put this on your TBR. It's a little slower paced and not so "thrilling". But it's a mystery that will keep you turning the pages for sure. Out of sheer curiosity more than being scared. Also, at the very beginning it gave me vibes of the movie THE DRESSMAKER with Kate Winslet, so I was all over that.⁠

Let's chat about misconceptions of the romance genre. All genres have their cliches and things that others from the outside make fun of. But it seems as if the romance genre gets the worst of it. Romance readers and romance authors alike. It's not hard to write a romance book, we all know what the plot of the book is, readers of romance are all middle aged women looking for "mommy porn". The worst part about this is that a lot of those accusations come from romance readers themselves. Really, I still don't understand this. You can't rate a book you loved above 3 stars because it's a romance and you could never give 5 stars to a romance book?⁠

🗣️Do you read holiday books? If so, what's your favorite trope to read in them? One of my favorites is the snowbound trope and here's a sweet and fun example of that. I'm still a little salty that this beautiful cover won't be able to grace my shelves because it's only a novella and not available in print. *cries and whines* but you should definitely check this out for some adorable holiday cheer. What could be better than diving into a good paranormal world? There are some series in PNR that are just so beloved and dear to my heart and the Demonica series is definitely one of those. Larissa Ione created a fun world that I love diving into every single time. Whether it's a short story about the Demonica Underworld or a full length novel that takes us deeper into the overarching plot. And we actually get to revisit Azagoth in this new release, which I'm so excited to read! I mean, who wouldn't want to read about the Grim Reaper wanting to protect his pregnant mate from doom?⁠
