Secrets in Death by J.D. Robb

SECRETS IN DEATH was the book that I was most excited about this month. It’s usually around this time that I pine for a good Mystery book and J.D. Robb definitely delivers one. In this book, Eve is faced with the murder of a “social information reporter”. In other words, she’s a blackmailer and it seems that more than one person may involved in her public murder at a chic Manhattan hotspot. Robb spins a complex story that will no doubt keep readers guessing. It’s fast-paced yet it doesn’t feel rushed at all. Every detail is carefully examined before the twists arrive. It’s a fantastic read and definitely one you shouldn’t miss out on if you’re a Eve Dallas fan.

Feversong by Karen Marie Moning

With only one release this year, you may be wondering how KMM could make Author of the Year. Well for me, FEVERSONG was the book that I was most looking forward to and the book that made the biggest impression on me this year. It finishes off the second stage of the Fever saga, answering some questions, but also leaving room for more. I love that about KMM’s writing. While she sates your thirst, she also makes you hunger for more. To me, that’s a trait of an excellent writer and I will continue to look forward to what she comes out with next!

Just the Thing by Marie Harte

If you like hilarious banter, shameless flirting, and dirty talk, then you’re going to love the chemistry between Gavin Donnigan and Zoe York. These two are explosive together! I usually pick an Erotic Romance for this category but this year I just had to go with this. There’s just so much fun to be had in a Marie Harte book! But in addition to the good times, Harte always injects her books with emotion as well. I thought this book was a great balance of the two.

Mission: Improper by Bec McMaster

I love it when an author takes two completely different personalities and puts them together so this was a total win for me. I love the chemistry between Caleb and Ingrid because at first it isn’t as obvious. But as the story goes on, their romance starts to build until it is set on fire. If you like a bit of tension between your main couple, then this one will fit the bill!

Devil in Spring by Lisa Kleypas

Years ago, I fell in love with Sebastian St. Vincent and when his son, Gabriel, walked onto the scene, I fell in love with him too. What is it about these St. Vincent men that make me swoon? Sexy and seductive in his own way, Gabriel St. Vincent was the hero to sweep me off my feet this year!

Bring the Heat by G.A. Aiken

I’m sure you know that I’m a big Aiken fan. Her books are always at the top of my most anticipated list and I was most excited for this book because it’s finally Brannie’s book. Brannie is such a trip. She’s so crazy and fun that you really can’t hate her. I also really loved the hero in this book as well so Aiken does have a really great cast of characters in this series.

Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor

This book is another standout for me. Taylor’s writing is truly one of the best in Young Adult Fantasy. Alluring and lyrical, I feel like it’s much more suited for Adult audiences and I love the fact that she doesn’t sugarcoat anything either. For a book that will make you think, I highly suggest reading this book!

Spartan Heart by Jennifer Estep

When I read book one, SPARTAN HEART, of this spin-off series, I was completely blown away by Estep’s strong voice. As a fan of her Urban Fantasy, I always knew that she could write but I love that she can write kickass heroines of different ages. What’s more interesting about this series is its mythology. There’s a great collection of Vikings, valkyries and the like scattered throughout and I don’t think I’ve encountered that before in a series. I can’t wait to read more!

Death of a Lobster Lover by Lee Hollis

This is a cozy mystery that I discovered this year that was the biggest standout to me. After reading the latest release, DEATH OF A LOBSTER LOVER, I went back to the beginning and read the first three books as well. This series has everything I love in a Cozy Mystery. It’s charming, alluring, and thrilling. I really love reading about Hayley Powell and the gang and I hope to continue reading the rest of the series this year.

Lord of Shadows by Cassandra Clare

If you haven’t fallen in love with Cassandra Clare and her ever-evolving worlds, then you really need to get on this series. LORD OF SHADOWS continues the sage that started with The Mortal Instruments series and Clare continues to blow me away with her worldbuilding and characterization. I don’t think there has been a Clare character that I didn’t have a strong connection to and I think that’s really the key to her success. She evokes so much emotion from her readers that her books really transcend paper.
