Do you ever get a little extra excited when you see a character has your name? Does it make you want to read the book more? I guess for me it comes from not seeing my name as often in things so when I see a book with a character named Francesca, I just want to immediately read it! This sounds so good!⁠

🔹I don’t have much to say today, I’m too busy enjoying some delicious reverse harem alien action in my latest read, the Chosen series by @stacyjonesauthor. If you like an alien with four arms and a tail, and I’ve found that I do, then give it a try.

🔹It doesn’t matter how many times I read this book, it never gets old. I love it. From the interesting historical information imparted to set the scene, to the compelling relationship between Simon and Annabelle. Then there are the brilliant bits between like the friendship between the Walllflowers and the peep into the utter terror of being a woman of no means and very limited options in the 19th century. It’s such a rich and compelling read, a star of the romance genre.

AOTD: As you can tell from my stories, I do. The shorter ones you’ll see quoted in my stories, as I love to share. But I have larger passages I like to highlight because there’s something in them that moved me in some way, or made me laugh.

🔹 So, in my stories today I talked a little bit about how I rate books. I’ve been reviewing for about 10 years now and I have a set notion in my mind about how I rate.

🔹 But, when I was thinking about it more deeply, it made me realise how tied in I was to those numbers. It can be difficult to read a book someone has poured a bit of their heart and soul into and then reduce it to a number. You lose so much nuance and subtlety.
•
•
🔹 On the other hand, it is a useful shorthand to what your general feelings are towards a book as a whole. For both you and for people who follow your reviews. So, I understand that using a rating system is a handy tool for any reviewers toolbox.
•
•
🔹 I have complex feelings about rating books and I would always encourage people to read a review. It forces you to articulate your reasoning behind a certain rating and get into that all important nuance and detail. That book that only inspired 3 stars from me, might be your next 5 star read.
