This is just me getting all doe eyed thinking about Tobias Rhodes from ALL RHODES LEAD HERE by Mariana Zapata.

Contemporary romance isn’t my favourite genre. I wouldn’t say it’s my least favourite sub genre, that hallowed spot belongs to either dark romance or new adult depending on my mood. But, it’s not something I gravitate to. Unless Mariana Zapata is writing it. Then I’m all over it.

There’s just something about her grumpy, stoic and tender hearted heroes and her heroines, women who always have this amazing well of inner strength that get to me. The gradual slow burn of their romance from enemies, to friends, to soul mates. It’s delicious and I’m here for it.

Anyways, I’m in the midst of a feverish reread of all her books. I’m currently half way through WAIT FOR IT.

It’s raining today, so it’s probably going to be a lazy day. Just finished a yummy brunch and had a zoom chat earlier today. Now to just listen to the storm and maybe read a book. Or nap. Maybe nap. I blame the mosquito that kept me awake ALL NIGHT buzzing in my ear and biting the crap out of me.

QOTD: When you start reading a finished series, do you just buy the first book, or the whole thing?

Usually I would just get the first book in case I don’t like it. But, as with most things in life, there are exceptions. Like the Parasol Protectorate series by Gail Carriger. I’ve already read the first book (way back when it was first released!) and so I already know I like it. Now, I just need to read the rest of the books!

I’m also not a big fan of reading paperback, gimme an ebook! But, I love the covers to this series so I made an exception.

QOTD: How many books do you usually read at once?

I usually have one or two. If I’m reading two it’s because I’m doing one audio and the other as an ebook. I get too confused if I’m reading multiple books in the same format! Here’s what I’m reading:

🎧 VENDETTA IN DEATH by JD Robb
📖 MINE TO POSSESS by Nalini Singh

Audiobooks are especially great as I’m trying to move more and get my activity level up. I’m not going to say the dreaded “exercise” word as that, for me at the moment, feels like too much pressure. But, having a nice walk and listening to a book feels less like the “e” word and more like fun.

Anyone else trying to get some more movement in now that the weather is warming up?

What was your latest #bookmail?

I got THE SHADOW FRIEND by Alex North in the post this week - in the US, it’s just called “THE SHADOWS” no idea why the title is different in the UK!

I really enjoyed North’s creepy debut THE WHISPER MAN last year so I can’t wait to get stuck into his next book. I’m a fairly new thriller reader, but it’s a genre I’m really getting into.
