“The story has a strong Disney vibe and sometimes reads like fan fiction. It was hard for me to finish through to the end because it was very predictable and at times a little cringy.”

~ Under the Covers

Sisters of the Snake has hidden identities, twin sisters, a secret twin swap, dark secrets, a lost princess, and so much adventure. This Indian-inspired book follows Ria and Rani. Princess Rani leads a veiled life; she’s kept in the dark in a privileged yet suffocating cage. Ria is a skilled thief who fights every day just to stay alive on the streets. When Ria goes to the palace on a mission, she runs into Princess Rani and they enter into a deal to swap places. They have to work together, separately, to learn about their past and to fix their future.

This book held a lot of promise and has such an interesting premise. It is immersive and right away you can dive into the story without needing to know a lot beforehand. The magic system was unique and the snake magic was an enchanting addition. I always love snake familiars in any story and this took that idea and engrained it into the plot. The story has a strong Disney vibe and sometimes reads like fan fiction. It was hard for me to finish through to the end because it was very predictable and at times a little cringy. There are also several plot holes that are semi-difficult to ignore but, at the same time, the world and characters were charming enough to still enjoy the story.

This would make a great pick for someone who would like a quick, easy YA fantasy read.
