“…perfect for someone looking for something to read after Bridgerton.”

~ Under the Covers

Recommended Read!

What am I doing reading a series out of order! I’ve wanted to read the first book for some time but when this one came out I just had to jump on it. The heroine is a widow after having married the man she thought would be the best for her standing in society. And then hero is a second son who has to adjust to a title and responsibilities after his brother died. What starts out as a wager for him to find a bride and be married within a year quickly took an unexpected turn.

This is a cute enemies to lovers with a special *ehem* arrangement. I came to like the heroine right away, there was something about the way she was so determined for her life to follow in exactly the path she chose. You could also tell immediately that the hero obviously had a crush on her for years and just didn’t know how to make it happen, or even if he had a chance. One of my favorite things about this story is the relationship that you can see between them. The banter is excellent, sparks and tension flying all over the place.

I also fell in love with the heroine’s group of friends and I definitely need to go back and read the first and continue on in the series.

If you’re looking for a fun and fast paced read, then this is for you. I can say that the first 2/3 of the book went by so fast and I loved it. I was a bit more disappointed with the conflict towards the end. There was enough in this story to dig into to make it more substantial and have more depth.

TO LOVE AND TO LOATHE is just a cute historical romance that I think would be perfect for someone looking for something to read after Bridgerton. Plus look at that cover! I need this one for my shelves ASAP.

About Martha Waters

Martha Waters was born and raised in sunny South Florida, where she spent her childhood reading lots of British children’s books and scribbling away in notebooks. Wishing for the novelty of seasons, she headed north (relatively speaking) and studied history and international studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she also obtained her master’s degree in library science. She is the author of the historical rom-coms To Have and to Hoax, To Love and to Loathe, and To Marry and to Meddle (scheduled for publication in 2022). By day, she works as a children’s librarian, and loves sundresses, gin cocktails, and traveling.
