THE PEARL is the third book in the Godwicks series and I definitely think that it’s my favorite one. I always say this, but my favorite books from Reisz are these types of books. The sultry and sexy type always draw me in and I really do think Reisz writes these the best. THE PEARL blends together some historical aspects with the Erotic Romance, but I really think that the sexiness is what shines in this book.
As always, you have some pretty interesting main characters. Lord Arthur Godwick is the older responsible brother, so when his brother racks up some major debt, indulging in some whores, he is the one who must fix the situation.
Regan is the owner of The Pearl Hotel and when she gets her hands on the famous Godwick art, she doesn’t want to let it go. However, that picture is so important to Arthur and his family that he strikes a deal with Regan in order to get it back. Ten days with her. But it turns out to be much more than that.
I really loved this book. It was sexy, funny, and sometimes sweet too. The romance was done well and there was a ton of chemistry between the two characters. I think you can probably overlook the Historical aspects pretty easily because I have noticed some inconsistency with the details, especially with the dialogue. I don’t think people would speak that way in that time. However, I could still overlook it.
There was just one thing that kept bugging me about the book and that’s the fact that Regan kept bringing up Arthur’s great grandfathers and all the other Godwick men before him. I get it; they have an infamous history with Pearl Hotel but when it comes to the sexy times, the last thing I want to picture is Arthur’s great grandfather, etc. I think Arthur was tired of hearing it too.
Other than that, I read this book really quickly because I enjoyed it so much. I’m hoping that Reisz will write more stories like this one. It’s definitely her forte.
