We are officially into the second half of the year and honestly, my reading is going through the mid year slump.  I guess it always has to do with life being full of things to do as the weather gets a little warmer.  But I was really hoping that with the restrictions of COVID I could really kick ass at my reading.  Instead, it’s been a struggle since the pandemic hit.  I’ve generally done much better during this time listening to audiobooks however August was a month that I couldn’t listen much since I’ve been taking some online classes as well.  Here’s to hoping for a better September!

I also went back to using my Bookly app for reading this month because I actually love stats (I mean, you know this by now right?) and I find it super interesting to see how long it takes me to read each book.  Which ones I breeze through, which I struggle with.  Plus it also gives me an easy way to store quotes, thoughts and new words.  This is the monthly report from the app. If you’re interested in getting the app, you can download the free version or upgrade to a PRO version with this 30% discount – click here.

The Highlights

There are really only two books that stand out for the month of August.  One was a re-read so does that even count?  I loved reading TWICE TEMPTED by Jeaniene Frost because …. Vlad.  Really, that should say it all.  I love this series and can’t wait to keep re-reading because he’s my all-time book boyfriend.  But for new favorites, I really enjoyed AN EXTRAORDINARY UNION by Alyssa Cole.  While this isn’t my first time reading this author, I do think this is my favorite book I’ve read by her and it’s left me excited to read more.  For sure in this series, but other books by her as well.

Reading Goals

August was my worst reading month of the year and I honestly blame real life but also reading a lot of slow and boring books lately.  They were not making me itch to pick up my book and it was much easier to let real life lead the way and put aside reading time.  But overall, I’m almost done with my GoodReads goal so that’s exciting.

Another one of my goals was to read more paranormal romance and I’m happy to say that for the year that is looking pretty good as it’s my second most read genre.

And as far as my enjoyment of the books I’ve been reading this year so far?  Here’s what my overall ratings look like.

Well, this month was a bit of a fail towards this challenge. I have several books picked out and I keep having to move them to the next month.  I’m getting a bit concerned about the “Summer” prompts which I’m trying to read for Moon and Sun pack.  I only have a bit of time in September to read those.  But in August I read YOU HAD ME AT HOLA by Alexis Daria for the Drive-In Movie prompt of the Sun pack, AN EXTRAORDINARY UNION by Alyssa Cole for Courtship Row in Moon pack and A COURT OF THORNS AND ROSES by Sarah J. Maas for the Coffee Shop in Sun pack.

It is fun to look over stats so I can see why you love that app. My August was actually my biggest reading month this year, but usually I’m like you and struggling to read books when I have tons of other distractions. That was my favorite Alyssa Cole, too. I still need to finish the Vlad part of the series. Hope you do great with reading in September!

Under the Covers Book Blog

Congrats on your best reading month! I’m excited to read the Alyssa Cole thriller so maybe there will be a new fave from hers.

I finished The Foundling Series by Hailey Edwards and got caught up with the In Death series by J D Robb.
