You know when you read a book and you didn’t even realize you were excited for it until you crack it open and things come back to you? That’s what happened to me when I started reading THE DARKEST ASSASSIN. After the previous novella in this series (Galen and Legion’s book) we got a little glimpse as to how the world of the Lords of the Underworld and Angels of the Dark would merge. Obviously with William’s book coming up this would be imperative. And then I start reading this and look who the hero is! Bjorn was one of those angels we left off unpaired from the Sent Ones. I am beyond excited that he got an HEA, even if it was a short one.
THE DARKEST ASSASSIN blends these two worlds seamlessly. I wanted to get a little more and maybe it can come across as too simple of a story. But I think Ms. Showalter did an amazing job with this novella. The chemistry is off the charts, the pacing didn’t let up, and I just never lost interest in these two and what was happening. I even softened to Fox, which I wasn’t expecting. I love when an author can make me care about a character that I was either indifferent to or disliked. My relationship with Fox was a mix of both of those, and in a short amount of time I managed to like her.
While I don’t recommend going into this book without reading the previous books in the series, it’s a great bridge between the two worlds and a setup for William’s story. Now, bring that on!
