“Any time I get more Thomas Cresswell I’m happy.Any time I get more Thomas Cresswell I’m happy.”
~ Under the Covers

I have loved this series for years and I was excited and sad both to see it come to an end.  There’s been a fine line of mystery and romance that has been explored throughout and I have fallen in love with Thomas and Audrey Rose as a couple.  Their dynamic is great and if I’m being honest, Thomas is one of my most beloved characters.  There’s just something about him that keeps me coming back to this series and falling more every single time.

While I wanted to see this couple get an HEA, and I knew there would be one in this book, I also love this series because of the actual investigation and mystery.  For me, CAPTURING THE DEVIL didn’t have the balance between these two things that I wanted.  A little less murder and mystery and a lot more relationship drama.  As a romance reader, you may think that’s even better.  But not necessarily.  I did miss that constant search for clues that felt like it was a side story and in the back burner at times.  It made my reading experience of this book suffer.

All that being said, doesn’t mean that I didn’t love what we got.  Thomas and Audrey Rose finally get together and I loved the fact that we did get to see them explore that relationship in this book.  Any time I get more Thomas Cresswell I’m happy.  The mystery here also goes back to the first book and it felt like a nice way to bring things full circle.  However, I didn’t like how it changed my perception of the first book. But overall, it was an interesting twist.

I’ll definitely be on the lookout for what Ms. Maniscalco writes next.  It’s gotta be a lot of pressure to recreate the magic that is basically Thomas Cresswell but I’ll sure be hoping for it.

About Kerri Maniscalco

Kerri Maniscalco grew up in a semi-haunted house outside NYC where her fascination with gothic settings began. In her spare time she reads everything she can get her hands on, cooks all kinds of food with her family and friends, and drinks entirely too much tea while discussing life’s finer points with her cats.

Her first novel in this series, Stalking Jack the Ripper, debuted at #1 on the New York Times bestseller list. It incorporates her love of forensic science and unsolved history.

Favorite non-writing things:

I believe curry, avocados, vinyl records, handwritten letters, and my 1950s Smith-Corona typewriter are the best things on the planet. EVER. (Aside from my food blog, www.sndwchsetc.com, that is.) ? My favorite quote of all time is: “You can’t wait for inspiration. You have to go after it with a club” by Jack London.

Follow Kerri on Twitter and Instagram where she’s always ready to talk fictional crushes and nerd out over books.
