“If you are looking for a story about starcrossed lovers that transcends time and space, then you should embark on this epic love journey with these characters.”
~ Under the Covers
I’ve been wanting to finish reading the Bronze Horseman trilogy for a while now and at the same time read more from this author. So when I saw she had a new trilogy coming out, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to read it. I had NO IDEA what this book was about when I started reading it and I think that was a good thing as I just let the story take me for a ride.
This is the story of Julian and Josephine. Their romance is one filled with insta-love, secrets and fate. A tale of starcrossed lovers finding their way to each other time and time again. But also a story of heartbreak. I was captivated by the overall theme and plot of the book, the writing has the signature style that you can expect from Ms. Simons. However, the pacing and development of this story was a bit too slow moving for me. I’m not sure if it’s because this is the first book in this series and it had to set things up before really diving in. But I found myself interested at first, then quickly lost that interest and slowly made my way through the middle of the book. Once we get closer to the end I feel the real plot of this story gets going and for that I was again fascinated.
I wish the pacing would’ve kept my attention because I’m a bit hesitant to read the next installment in fear that it would be more of the same. I also have hope that because we got past the first book hurdle it’ll be better.
Another thing that I struggled with was the characters. Our heroine is written to be unlikeable. I don’t think the reader is ever meant to connect with her as she is hiding so many secrets. The more of those that are revealed, the more I disliked her. I wasn’t too upset about that because I’m hoping after three books in this series there will be a character growth that I can get behind. But our hero was also not a stand out. Like I said with the pacing, character also went through the same rollercoaster for me. I found for most of this book he felt weak and it wasn’t until closer to the end that he grows and starts to develop more.
If you are looking for a story about starcrossed lovers that transcends time and space, then you should embark on this epic love journey with these characters. I’ll have to think on this some more to decide whether I’ll move on to the next one or not.

I get easily distracted by pictures of sexy guys and have tons of book boyfriends.I keep all my alpha males chained to my basement and guard them fiercely.*Back off bitches*I like to see Jason Momoa as a lot of those boyfriends, because ….. mmmmmmm JASON.MOMOA!
I’m a part time graphic designer (yes, everything you see on UTC has been done by me), run my husband's business from home and on a good day I’m a self appointed superwoman (she who can do it all).I love blogging with my girls and I couldn’t do it any other way!My first love is everything paranormal, but in the past few years I’ve re-learned to love contemporary romance.Every once in a while I like to mix things up with a historical romance, a steampunk or an LGBT book.Because I need variety to avoid book slumps.I don’t always need an HEA although I prefer one, and I love authors that can rip my heart out and make me ugly cry.
