“If you like books where they do go deeper into the profession of the characters thought, I think this would be perfect.”
~ Under the Covers
I’ve been wanting to read this book for a while now because…. well who wouldn’t want to read about the romance between the President of the US and his secret service bodyguard. It just sounded like the perfect m/m romantic thriller. This is the first book in the series and what I didn’t realize going in is that all three books are about the same couple. So if you’re planning on reading this and you may think the romance is taking a while to develop, don’t get scared! There are two more books for everything to settle properly.
That being said, we do get some romance in this book. This is told in Ethan’s POV , the Special Agent, and I was 100% behind that. He was my favorite character. I loved seeing his attraction to the President even when it was forbidden because of his job and even when he thought there would be no way it would lead to anything because the President isn’t gay! Ethan’s relationship with his co-workers and his developing friendship with Jack (the President) was what kept me turning the pages.
I did find this book was a bit heavy on the politics and for me that dragged the book down at times. I think that’s just my personal preference. If you like books where they do go deeper into the profession of the characters thought, I think this would be perfect. It isn’t political in the sense that it feels it’s pushing an agenda but that there’s a lot of talk about what the President has to do, decisions he has to make and the effects they have.
I’m curious to continue reading this series and to read more about how these two will navigate a relationship.
