“I really enjoyed the premise of this story and the romance between the main characters.”
~ Under the Covers
Whenever I see a new paranormal romance series I get excited. Why aren’t authors writing this genre more nowadays? So I had to jump on this one as soon as I had the chance. The blurb and backstory sounded like something right up my alley.
Vampires were created in Medieval times due to a curse between two feuding families. From there, the descendants of one blood line have the ability to kill vampires and the other blood line is set in wiping those vampire “hunters” out of existence whenever they show up through the ages. That’s how we found ourselves in a small town in Pennsylvania in this book. Alessandra’s powers are starting to manifest and both Kenton and Lawrence come to town to follow their centuries-old mission. Kenton to kill Alessandra and Lawrence to keep her safe. Except love gets in the way.
I really enjoyed the premise of this story and the romance between the main characters. I think ultimately what made this story a bit lackluster or engaging for me was that I wanted there to be more going on around them, higher stakes. I think this boils down to expectation because there are many more laid back PNRs and that’s where this fall under. It was a laid back story that is character driven. And maybe I was just in the mood for one more action-packed and story-driven.
All that aside, I did like the characters a lot. Not just the main couple but what we got to see of the supporting cast of characters. I’m definitely interested in the setup for book 2 and will continue reading this series.
