“If you like your heroes sweet and a story to warm your heart on a cold winter night, then pick this one up.”
~ Under the Covers
I discovered this series a few years ago and read a book out of order. Then I got the audiobook for this one for free during a promotion and left it sitting again for a while. But it’s cold out and I undoubtedly always go looking for wintery feel books. If there’s snow or ice I need to read it this time of year. And this was the perfect time to dust this off the shelves. When I read the blurb, I was hooked!
The hero of this story, Jackson, has been in love with Abby from the moment he met her when they were just kids. He never acted on that attraction and his best friend ended up marrying her. He got the hockey career he dreamed of, the girl and the picture perfect family, while Jackson ended up living back home in their small town, alone, and working as the hockey coach at the high school. And then scandal hits Abby’s marriage. She comes back home with her daughter and in the process of getting divorced. Years of animosity get pushed aside and Jackson finally gets his chance.
I’m going to be honest here. The trope for this book is like catnip for me. It’s the one that got away! And away to go marry his best friend nonetheless. I was rooting for Jackson to get the girl from the start and I really liked how the whole thing was done. But them getting together now is not without new obstacles as well. In the end, this made for a great read that I completely breezed through because I didn’t want to put it down.
If you like your heroes sweet and a story to warm your heart on a cold winter night, then pick this one up. It left me with a smile on my face. And as I’ve read book 3 already I can probably suggest you breeze through the series! I’ll be picking up book 2 soon to catch up. 🙂
