Most Anticipated Books [2019]
Summoned to the Thirteenth Grave
by Darynda Jones

BOOK INFO

Released: January 15th 2019
Series: Charley Davidson #13
Pages: 304

Grim Reaper Charley Davidson is back in the final installment of Darynda Jones’ New York Times bestselling paranormal series!

Charley Davidson, Grim Reaper extraordinaire, is pissed. She’s been kicked off the earthly plain for eternity – which is the appropriate amount of time to make a person starkraving mad. But someone’s looking out for her, and she’s allowed to return after a mere hundred years in exile. Is it too much to hope for that not much has changed? Apparently it is. Bummer.

She’s missed her daughter, she’s missed Reyes, and Beep, but now that she’s back on earth, it’s time to put to rest burning questions that need answers. What happened to her mother? How did she really die? Who killed her? And are cupcakes or coffee the best medicine? It all comes to a head in an epic showdown between good and evil in this final smart and hilarious novel.

This is the dreaded final installment.  Though an anticipated read, it is also what any Charley Davidson fan fears…the end of the series. I love this series so much I didn’t want it to end.  I had the pleasure of reading the ARC and I’m pretty damn sure that it will rank at least my top three reads of 2019.  ~ angela

Devil's Daughter
by Lisa Kleypas

BOOK INFO

Released: February 19, 2019
Series: The Ravenels #5
Published by Avon
Pages: 384

Although beautiful young widow Phoebe, Lady Clare, has never met West Ravenel, she knows one thing for certain: he's a mean, rotten bully. Back in boarding school, he made her late husband's life a misery, and she'll never forgive him for it. But when Phoebe attends a family wedding, she encounters a dashing and impossibly charming stranger who sends a fire-and-ice jolt of attraction through her. And then he introduces himself...as none other than West Ravenel.

West is a man with a tarnished past. No apologies, no excuses. However, from the moment he meets Phoebe, West is consumed by irresistible desire...not to mention the bitter awareness that a woman like her is far out of his reach. What West doesn't bargain on is that Phoebe is no straitlaced aristocratic lady. She's the daughter of a strong-willed wallflower who long ago eloped with Sebastian, Lord St. Vincent—the most devilishly wicked rake in England.

Before long, Phoebe sets out to seduce the man who has awakened her fiery nature and shown her unimaginable pleasure. Will their overwhelming passion be enough to overcome the obstacles of the past?

Only the devil's daughter knows…

This is one of my most anticipated books of the year not just of this month.  First of all, it’s Lisa Kleypas!!  Anything by one of my favorite authors goes immediately on my most anticipated list.  But also it’s finally West Ravenel’s book.  We met him in book 1 and he’s gone through some growth throughout the series.  I’ve been dying for his book and he’s finally ready to find love.  I also love that this sounds like it’ll be an enemies to lovers at first because of the heroine’s previous knowledge of West.  CANNOT.WAIT! ~ francesca

Perhaps the only Historical Romance that I heavily anticipate these days, Lisa Kleypas has been one of my favourites for a very long time. Her fifth book in the Ravenels series is one that I’m anticipating simply because I cannot get enough of her writing. You honestly cannot beat quality characters and writing and Kleypas gets it right every time. ~ annie

Most Anticipated Books [2019]
Wild Country
by Anne Bishop

BOOK INFO

Released: March 5th 2019
Series: The Others #7

There are ghost towns in the world—places where the humans were annihilated in retaliation for the slaughter of the shape-shifting Others.

One of those places is Bennett, a town at the northern end of the Elder Hills—a town surrounded by the wild country. Now efforts are being made to resettle Bennett as a community where humans and Others live and work together. A young female police officer has been hired as the deputy to a Wolfgard sheriff. A deadly type of Other wants to run a human-style saloon. And a couple with four foster children—one of whom is a blood prophet—hope to find acceptance.

But as they reopen the stores and the professional offices and start to make lives for themselves, the town of Bennett attracts the attention of other humans looking for profit. And the arrival of the outlaw Blackstone Clan will either unite Others and humans...or bury them all.

Anne Bishop brings something really unique to the urban fantasy genre with the Others series. It turns humans into prey and takes another look at paranormal characters, making them fierce, deadly and very very other. It’s one of my favourite series and I can’t wait to see how this book unfolds.  ~ suzanne

by J.R. Ward

BOOK INFO

Released: April 2 2019
Series: Black Dagger Brotherhood #17

In the next heart-pounding novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling Black Dagger Brotherhood series, J.R. Ward delivers a brand-new paranormal passion with the story of Murhder, who returns after his appearance in The Thief!

Read and excerpt from the book exclusively at Entertainment Weekly! Click here.

OMG this may be my most anticipated book ever!!!  I’ve been a fan of the Black Dagger Brotherhood for years and for most of those years the one character I wanted more from was Murhder.  I can’t believe he’ll finally be in my hands in just a few months.  But not only that, I’m fully expecting to get some JM and Xhex drama in the mix of Murhder’s story and I’m here for it.  JM is my favorite hero of the series and I’m always looking forward to getting more from him.  Maybe Murhder can top him?  High expectations!! ~ francesca

Where can I sign up for some Murhder? We faithful Black Dagger Brotherhood fans have been waiting for so long for his book and now it’s almost here! I full intend to take my usual few days off work so I have one day to read and another few days to pull myself together after Ward has torn me asunder – as per usual. ~ suzanne

It’s been a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time since we’ve had any updates on Murhder, which is why I’m so excited about this book! It makes me wonder if Ward will try to bring back that old Black Dagger Brotherhood feeling. Regardless, her Black Dagger Brotherhood books are timeless and I hope this next release from her will live up to many readers expectations. ~ annie

Any Black Dagger Brotherhood book is an anticipated read for us here at UTC and with Murhder being the hero in this installment makes it even more so. Because he’s from Wrath’s time, I’m hoping we get the OG BDB vibe. ~ angela

Storm Cursed
by Patricia Briggs

BOOK INFO

Released: May 7th 2019
Series: Mercy Thompson #11

In this powerful entry in the #1 New York Times bestselling series, Mercy Thompson must face a deadly enemy to defend all she loves…

My name is Mercedes Athena Thompson Hauptman, and I am a car mechanic.

And a coyote shapeshifter.

And the mate of the Alpha of the Columbia Basin werewolf pack.

Even so, none of that would have gotten me into trouble if, a few months ago, I hadn’t stood upon a bridge and taken responsibility for the safety of the citizens who lived in our territory. It seemed like the thing to do at the time. It should have only involved hunting down killer goblins, zombie goats, and an occasional troll. Instead, our home was viewed as neutral ground, a place where humans would feel safe to come and treat with the fae.

The reality is that nothing and no one is safe. As generals and politicians face off with the Gray Lords of the fae, a storm is coming and her name is Death.

But we are pack, and we have given our word.

We will die to keep it.

How is that with each book I love this series more? We are at book 11 of the Mercy Thompson series it just seems to get better. Briggs has really upped the ante in the most recent books and our heroine now has to contend with more than just werewolves and vampires. The powerful fae now have Mercy on their radar. If you want an urban fantasy that not only has a really strong romance plot but also a story that continually pulls you in, then look no further! ~ suzanne

Soul of the Sword
by Julie Kagawa

BOOK INFO

Released: June 25th 2019
Series: Shadow of the Fox #2
Published by Inkyard Press
Pages: 304

One thousand years ago, a wish was made to the Harbinger of Change and a sword of rage and lightning was forged. Kamigoroshi. The Godslayer. It had one task: to seal away the powerful demon Hakaimono.

Now he has broken free.

Kitsune shapeshifter Yumeko has one task: to take her piece of the ancient and powerful scroll to the Steel Feather temple in order to prevent the summoning of the Harbinger of Change, the great Kami Dragon who will grant one wish to whomever holds the Scroll of a Thousand Prayers. But she has a new enemy now. The demon Hakaimono, who for centuries was trapped in a cursed sword, has escaped and possessed the boy she thought would protect her, Kage Tatsumi of the Shadow Clan.

Hakaimono has done the unthinkable and joined forces with the Master of Demons in order to break the curse of the sword and set himself free. To overthrow the empire and cover the land in darkness, they need one thing: the Scroll of a Thousand Prayers. As the paths of Yumeko and the possessed Tatsumi cross once again, the entire empire will be thrown into chaos.

Young adult isn’t generally a genre I read, however, I really enjoyed the first book in this series in 2018 and I am excited to get my hands on the second. It’s a fantasy set in feudal Japan and I love the mythos that Kagawa explores and the traditional quest story although not original, I have a lot of fun reading. ~ suzanne

BOOK INFO

Released: July 30th 2019
Series: Night Rebel #2

In the newest Night Rebel novel, set in New York Times bestselling author Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress world, beautiful, daring vampire Veritas risks all to protect Ian…

Some promises are meant to be broken…

Veritas spent most of her life as a vampire Law Guardian. Now, she’s about to break every rule by secretly hunting down the dark souls that were freed in order to save Ian. But the risks are high. For if she gets caught, she could lose her job. And catching the sinister creatures might cost Veritas her own life.

Some vows are forever…

Ian’s memories might be fragmented, but this master vampire isn’t about to be left behind by the woman who entranced him, bound herself to him, and then disappeared. So what if demons, other Law Guardians, and dangerous, otherworldly forces stand against them? Come hell or high water, Ian intends to remind Veritas of the burning passion between them, because she is the only person seared on his mind—and his soul…

We were left hanging at the end of SHADES OF WICKED with an interesting turn of events in this spin off series.  I fell even harder for Ian than I thought and I can’t wait to see how his story continues.  Plus, Veritas was one of my favorite heroines of the year!  I am really looking forward to getting more from these two. ~ francesca

In a world where magic is the key to power and wealth, Catalina Baylor is a Prime, the highest rank of magic user, and the Head of her House. Catalina has always been afraid to use her unique powers, but when her friend’s mother and sister are murdered, Catalina risks her reputation and safety to unravel the mystery.

To help her friend, Catalina must test the limits of her extraordinary powers, but doing so may cost her both her House–and her heart.

This may be the release I am looking forward to the most. Ilona Andrews is one of my favourite authors. Her Kate Daniels series is my all time favourite series and the first part of the Hidden Legacy series had me hooked. BOOK INFO

Released: October 29th 2019
Series: The Montgomerys and Armstrongs #3

After Scotland’s three most powerful clans come together to build a formidable alliance, an apprehensive king conspires to keep his empire from collapsing. He orders Taliesan McHugh to agree to a marriage that will ensure the king maintains control of the coveted McHugh fortress. With no other choice but to obey her king, Taliesan accepts her destiny. But when her path crosses with that of Brodie Armstrong, she begins to wonder what it would be like to feel the warrior’s strong arms around her—and to be loved by him.

Staunchly opposing the king’s command to stand down, Brodie plots to save Taliesan from her arranged marriage. He is determined to make the gentle beauty his but finds himself at the mercy of a decades-old family agreement. As power struggles echo across the Highlands, Brodie continues to defy the king and vows to remain true to his cause, his people—and, most of all, the woman who has claimed his heart.

I know I speak for everyone else who has read the previous two books in this series.  This is probably the most anticipated read for the past six years. Yes. We have been waiting for the author to finish this trilogy for about six years and it looks like it might just happen this year.  It even has a blurb. ~ angela

Coming soon! The Wives by Tarryn Fisher will be available Dec 31, 2019.

Here’s the strange thing.  I’ve read Tarryn Fisher before and I’ve never been the biggest fan.  Some books I like ok some are just not for me.  I’ve DNF one even.  But there’s always something that appeals to me about her stories.  There’s hardly any info out on this one but it’s labeled as a thriller and I think her twisted stories are perfect for that genre so I’m looking forward to reading this one and giving her another chance. ~ francesca
