Welcome to Under the Covers, Christine! We are excited to be talking to you today about VENGEANCE ROAD. This is the second book in the Torpedo Ink series. Can you tell us more about your inspiration for this series and what can readers expect?
I realized that boys and men are treated differently when it comes to abuse, trauma and PTSD. People tend to think they should “suck it up” and “get over it.” There was a sense of humiliation and embarrassment associated with the victim because they were male and either shouldn’t have let it happen or should be strong enough to ignore that it had happened. I can’t tell you just how much that bothers me. So, I wanted to address the issue head-on in a way that seemed real so people could see that we all suffer, no matter the gender. And that we all have a chance at happiness no matter what life does to us. We can acknowledge our pain and do our best to work through it or with it in order to make a life we love. I wanted to provide hope for those who’ve suffered traumatic experiences.
As far as what readers can expect, they can expect family, love, and a happy ever after just like they find in my other books. There’s harsh reality, and also acceptance and hope and the promise that we all deserve to love and be loved.
For longtime fans of your other books that haven’t jumped into this series, how would you say it’s different?
My Torpedo Ink series is far grittier and edgier than anything I’ve written before. This is a motorcycle club made up of men, and two women, who attended the Russian school I talk about in the Drake Sisters and Sisters of the Heart series. It was a brutal childhood and now these men and women have PTSD in a way that doesn’t allow them to mix easily with normal society. These books are also mainly in a male point of view.
What is Breezy’s biggest strength and what do you admire most about her?
Her strength is what I admire most about her, which is her ability to accept a situation and think things through thoroughly before reacting. Also, she’s very compassionate and knows how to remain calm as she takes things into consideration.
What is your favorite type of hero?
I love an extremely alpha hero. I want them to be confident and willing to fight or sacrifice for the people they love.
How would you describe the relationship between Breezy and Steele in 3 words?
Intense. Difficult. Loving.
We are just starting the new year and making resolutions. Do you have any New Year’s resolutions? How about bookish resolutions?
My New Year’s resolution is to be kinder to myself. I tend to get caught up in work and I need to learn to have fun again. As far as a bookish resolution goes, I hope to read more and catch up on my favorite authors.
Is there an idea out there (from a book or movie) that you wish you’d thought of?
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson. I absolutely love the main character. I would have written it as a romance though. LOL
What is one of your favorite moments from your writing career?
It was the first time I saw my book in a library. Growing up I practically lived in the library. My first job was at a library. And as a single mom I spent my money on my family and didn’t have enough left to buy books so I depended on the library to get the books I wanted to read. When I saw my book in the library for the first time I cried and I thought “This is real.”
What can we expect from you next and what are you currently working on?
I have a lot coming out this year! Vengeance Road is out January 29th, Toxic Game releases March 12th, Shadow Warrior is out June 4th, Dark Illusion releases September 3rd, and Leopard’s Wrath is out November 5th. Also, the paperback of Dark Sentinel releases August 6th. And currently I am working on Vendetta Road. I like to keep busy!
Thank you so much for sharing with us today!
