Today we are talking about our favourite shifters…
Lachlan “Lock” MacRyrie
from The Mane Squeeze by Shelly Laurenston
#4 Pride series
Much like with Nalini Singh, we could make up a top 5 Shelly Laurenston shifters! But I tend to think that bear shifters are often overlooked because wolves or felines are more readily available. The great thing about Ms. Laurenston’s shifters is that she does such a great job at incorporating characteristics from the actual animals into the personalities of her heroes. Lock is an adorable and sweet beta hero but as the saying says… don’t poke the bear! As much as he’s endearing, once awaken you’ll be sure to hear him roar. But don’t worry… he’s still a teddy bear!

Growing up on the tough Philly streets, Gwen O'Neill has learned how to fend for herself. But what is she supposed to do with a nice, suburban Jersey boy in the form of a massive Grizzly shifter? Especially one with a rather unhealthy fetish for honey, moose, and…uh…well, her. Yet despite his menacing ursine growl and four-inch claws, Gwen finds Lachlan "Lock" MacRyrie cute and really sweet. He actually watches out for her, protects her, and unlike the rest of her out-of-control family manages not to morbidly embarrass her. Too bad cats don't believe in forever.
At nearly seven feet tall, Lock is used to people responding to him in two ways: screaming and running away. Gwen-half lioness, half tigress, all kick-ass-does neither. She's sexy beyond belief and smart as hell, but she's a born protector. Watching out for the family and friends closest to her but missing the fact that she's being stalked by a murderous enemy who doesn't like hybrids…and absolutely hates Gwen. Lock probably shouldn't get involved, but he will. Why? Because this is Gwen-and no matter what the hissing, roaring, drape destroying feline says about not being ready to settle down, Lock knows he can't simply walk away. Not when she's come to mean absolutely everything to him.
from Otherworld series by Kelley Armstrong
What’s better than a sexy beast with lots of muscle and strength? Why, one with brains too! Clay is the feared and legendary Enforcer of the North American Pack but at the same time that most werewolves fear his wrath, he’s also got a genius IQ and a PhD in anthropology. Can you say SEXY AS HELL? He can make you swoon in the classroom or in battle. Well, and other places too but we won’t go into many details about that right now. 😉

"Frisky...Tells a rather sweet love story, and suggests that being a wolf may be more comfortable for a strong, smart woman than being human." -The New York Times Book Review
Elena Michaels seems like the typically strong and sexy modern woman, She lives with her architect boyfriend, writes for a popular newspaper, and works out at the gym. She's also a werewolf.
Elena has done all she can to assimilate to the human world, but the man whose bite changed her existence forever, and his legacy, continue to haunt her. Thrown into a desperate war for survival that tests her allegiance to a secret clan of werewolves, Elena must recon with who, and what, she is in this passionate, page-turning novel that begins the Women of the Otherworld series.
from Alpha & Omega series by Patricia Briggs
If you like your shifters, tall, dark and mysterious then Charles is perfect for you. Native American on his mothers side, he has inherited some of her magic, making him a very rare werewolf. Although he is the bogeyman of the werewolf world, his dangerous side is driven by his need to protect; innocents and the vulnerable know they are save around him. With his dark good looks, dry sense of humour and intelligence it’s hard not to fall for him.

Anna never knew werewolves existed, until the night she survived a violent attack... and became one herself. After three years at the bottom of the pack, she'd learned to keep her head down and never, ever trust dominant males. Then Charles Cornick, the enforcer—and son—of the leader of the North American werewolves, came into her life.
Charles insists that not only is Anna his mate, but she is also a rare and valued Omega wolf. And it is Anna's inner strength and calming presence that will prove invaluable as she and Charles go on the hunt in search of a rogue werewolf—a creature bound in magic so dark that it could threaten all of the pack.
It is recommended you read the prequel "Alpha & Omega" before reading Cry Wolf.
from Kiss of Snow by Nalini Singh
#10 Psy Changeling series
From the moment we first met the older and somber leader of the SnowDancer pack, he’s owned a piece of my heart. He’s mourned the loss of the woman who would’ve been his mate for many years and he’s led his wolves fiercely. Hawke is an intense and lethal alpha! But he’s got a funny side too. Like that time he told his Lieutenant to give the rat alpha a wheel of cheese 😉 He leads fearlessly and loves fiercely. As with Ms. Laurenston before, we could fill up this list with Changelings from this series but even after all these years, no one can compare to Hawke.
Released: May 31, 2011
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Series: Psy-Changeling #10
Published by Berkley
The hardcover debut of New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh and her highly acclaimed Psy/Changeling novels.
Since the moment of her defection from the PsyNet and into the SnowDancer wolf pack, Sienna Lauren has had one weakness. Hawke. Alpha and dangerous, he compels her to madness.
Hawke is used to walking alone, having lost the woman who would've been his mate long ago. But Sienna fascinates the primal heart of him, even as he tells himself she is far too young to handle the wild fury of the wolf.
Then Sienna changes the rules-and suddenly, there is no more distance, only the most intimate of battles between two people who were never meant to meet. Yet as they strip away each other's secrets in a storm of raw emotion, they must also ready themselves for a far more vicious fight...
A deadly enemy is out to destroy SnowDancer, striking at everything they hold dear, but it is Sienna's darkest secret that may yet savage the pack that is her home-and the alpha who is its heartbeat.
from Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews
Curran, also known as the Beast Lord has been and always will be my number one shifter. He turns into a grey prehistoric lion and put simply…he is magnificent. Ilona Andrews does a fantastic job of making him more than just his rugged good looks. He is powerful, wily and intelligent. He’s also arrogant, frustrating and sarcastic. Could I love him more? I don’t think that’s possible. So, if you want to experience the majesty that is His Furriness then give the Kate Daniels series a try, it’s won’t disappoint.

Atlanta would be a nice place to live, if it weren’t for magic…
One moment magic dominates, and cars stall and guns fail. The next, technology takes over and the defensive spells no longer protect your house from monsters. Here skyscrapers topple under onslaught of magic; werebears and werehyenas prowl through the ruined streets; and the Masters of the Dead, necromancers driven by their thirst of knowledge and wealth, pilot blood-crazed vampires with their minds.
In this world lives Kate Daniels. Kate likes her sword a little too much and has a hard time controlling her mouth. The magic in her blood makes her a target, and she spent most of her life hiding in plain sight.
But when Kate’s guardian is murdered, she must choose to do nothing and remain safe or to pursue his preternatural killer. Hiding is easy, but the right choice is rarely easy…
