Interview and Giveaway with Melissa Foster

Welcome back to Under the Covers, Melissa!  We are excited to talk to you about WICKED WHISKEY LOVE.

I am beyond excited for Bones and Sarah’s love story to finally be in the hands of readers! I hope readers will love their deeply emotional love story, the darkness of Sarah’s past, and her resilience to triumph!

How would you describe Bones Whiskey?

Oh Dr. Wayne “Bones” Whiskey! He has the uncanny ability to compartmentalize, and he is a fierce protector, especially when it comes to Sarah, her children, and his family. I think his sister, Dixie, describes him best:  Bones has always been the guy who stands back, meticulously analyzing situations before making decisions, much less a move toward anything—unless someone is in imminent danger. Then he goes on instinct, and he’ll obliterate everything in his path. He’s as deadly as his brother Bullet, but with lethal precision, striking as fast and viciously as a rattlesnake.

Sarah has been through quite a lot. What would you say are characteristics of a strong heroine?

Strong comes in many flavors, but I think getting up after being knocked down is an element that most strong heroines possess. I don’t believe strong heroines rely on their hero to “save” them, but rather to support them in their strength. Strong heroines stand for what they believe in, and stand up for others in whatever ways they are able (even if only by being there for them).

If the characters from your book could actually meet and go on a double date with another fictional couple (NOT from your books), who do you think they would hit it off with and from what book are they?

That is a great question! Can it be from a television show? I think Bones and Sarah would hit it off with Max Goodwin (Ryan Eggold) and his wife Georgia (Lisa O’Hare), at least as of Season 1, Episode 2, because they are good, smart people, who go above and beyond for others, but whose love is deep and true.

What would be your advice to writers who want to produce as many books as you?

It’s cliche to say just keep writing, but that’s my first advice. However, it’s equally as important to work with a strong editorial staff. Readers deserve quality books, whether they’re getting them free or for a price–and the author’s reputation is on the line with each and every title.

Describe a typical writing day for you.

I am on my treadmill or bike (both are attached to desks with computers) by 7am to do administrative work. After dropping my son at school, I begin writing (by 8:45-9am). I have cut my word count goal from 10K/day (which I did for three years) to 4-5K/day, and I write until I hit that. The rest of my life doesn’t stop because I’m writing, so the end of my day depends on how much other work I’ve got on my plate. I run a busy publishing company with 4-5 books in various stages of publication/editing at all times, two brands, and foreign language and audiobook publications. Life is busy! And of course sometimes I get derailed by social media, or I might have a momentary writing block to work through, or scene research to do, all of which takes time. Sometimes I work until 5-6pm, but it’s not unusual to see me at my desk at 10pm. I guess there is no such thing as a typical day in my life 🙂

Who or what as been the biggest inspiration for your writing?

Life! I get my best inspiration from real life issues, things I see or hear. My fan club on Facebook is a constant source for inspiration. Our conversations and pictures they post often spark ideas. Probably the most fun inspiration is when I’m writing and a new character jumps out at me. I’m like a fan girl! Ha! I get SO excited!

Who are three romance authors who turn you into a fangirl?

Jill Shalvis, Jennifer Probst, and Julie Kenner

What’s next for Melissa Foster?

Loads of fun, sexy stories! I have a super-sexy spin-off to my Sugar Lake series coming out next year called Harmony Pointe, which will feature more of my beloved Daltons and their friends! It hasn’t yet been announced, so fans should stay tuned…

As far as upcoming publications are concerned, I’m excited about FINDING MY GIRL / LOVING TALIA, the companion booklet to my September release, LOVE LIKE OURS (Sugar Lake series). FINDING MY GIRL is releasing Dec 5th and includes illustrations and exclusive notes from LOVE LIKE OURS hero, Derek Grant, to Talia. It will be available on all retailers. This is the first of its kind, and I’m looking forward to bringing this visual adaptation to readers!

I’m also thrilled for my January release, TRAILS OF LOVE, the next book in my Bradens and Montgomerys series. TRAILS is the first of the series that showcases both of the families in a major way. It is the ultimate feel-good romance. Morgyn Montgomery and Graham Braden have found true love for the very first time, and watching them experience it will make your heart explode—and your hormones go crazy, so be prepared!

Thanks so much for sharing with us today!

Thank you for the opportunity, and thank you to my fans for bringing my Love in Bloom series into your lives 🙂
