“FIREWORKS packs in the emotion and chemistry into a sweet romance you won’t want to put down.”
~ Under the Covers
Every time a new book in the True North series is announced I count down the days until I can crack it open. This is a series that mixes the comforting small town setting of Vermont with the family feel of a tight knit group of friends and their families to create a sense of community that I love being a part of. So I couldn’t wait to read FIREWORKS, the book about the brother of the previous book hero.
This story didn’t disappoint. This is a sweet second chance romance about two people that never really fell out of love. They were separated by circumstance, immaturity and maybe some miscommunication. But both of them had to grow up through some pretty rough situations and I couldn’t fault them for their actions. Especially when it came to the heroine, who was the more immature in a way and quick to act.
FIREWORKS also has a little more in the way of mystery or suspense than the previous books in the series. Skye is having to face some of the demons of her past. She grew up with an abusive stepfather who was also part of the police force and they were always at his mercy and not able to speak up against him. Now he’s gotten her step sister involved in his drug scheme and Skye has to help her, from both him and from landing in jail because of her involvement.
A couple of things that always stay with me about this series. Every book is so completely different than the last. In feel and storyline. And I love that about the series because it’s fresh and you never know what type of story you’re going to get, much like real life. For this book in particular, I loved seeing the connection between Skye and Benito as kids and how that stayed with them throughout the years even when they were apart. It was such a strong bond and love that couldn’t be denied. And it made the HEA much more satisfying.
FIREWORKS packs in the emotion and chemistry into a sweet romance you won’t want to put down.
