Interview and Giveaway with Sarina Bowen

Welcome back to Under the Covers! We’re excited about SPEAKEASY, the fourth book in the True North series. Firstly, for readers who may be new to the series, how would you recommend this series in 280 characters or less?

Welcome to Vermont, where the men are burly and the mountains are misty. The beer is excellent, and beards are optional but encouraged.

SPEAKEASY is Alec and May’s story. We’ve seen May go through a lot in the previous books in the series.  Did you always know you wanted to write May’s book and was Alec the original HEA in your mind?

Alec sort of snuck up on me as an interesting combination of party boy and family man. I always wanted to write May, and I tried to give her a girlfriend. But the girlfriend didn’t work out and then she surprised me by falling for Alec.

If you had to pick three words to describe Alec and May, what would they be for each?

Alec: fun, underestimated, loyal

May: smart, underestimated, self-deprecating

What would you say was the most difficult thing about writing this book? How did you overcome it?

Well. Pull up a chair. The tricky thing here was that Griffin–who readers adore from book 1–is somewhat of an antagonist in this book. I had trouble seeing him that way even when it made sense. Sibling relationships are fun to write, though, and eventually I got where I needed to go!

There’s plenty of beer talk in this book so we are curious to know do you have a personal favorite you like to drink?

Right now my favorite is Citra-pils by Switchback. It’s a nice Vermont beer! I drink one nearly every night.

Book 6 in the True North series is planned for late 2018 release.  Can you tell us anything about it?

See, I already got myself in a pickle by saying what the next True North book would be and then switching it. But I THINK that book is for Benito and a heroine you haven’t met yet.

When you are not writing, we could find you….

Thinking about writing. Or driving kids to soccer practice.

And the hardest question of all… which is hotter, heroes that work with their hands or hockey players?

They all work with their hands! I don’t even have to choose.

What’s next for Sarina Bowen?

I have a YA novel coming on July 10 that I’m so excited about! The cover will be revealed very soon and I can’t wait.

Sometimes you fall for Mr. Right. And sometimes for Mr. Right Now…

Did you hear the one about the girl who walks into a bar and catches her live-in lover kissing someone else? No? You’re the only one in town who missed it.

Luckily Alec is there to wrap me up in strong arms and carry me out the door before things get too ugly. And that’s not all Alec is good at. Our unexpected chemistry makes him the perfect rebound guy.

I should know better than to hook up with my rival’s little sister, but the fiery look in May’s eyes really turns my crank. She needs cheering up, and I’m just the guy for the job.

It’s not like I’ll fall in love. Not even after a string of scorching hot trysts, and the realization that we’re good at the same things: wild nights and familial disappointment. I don’t do love, never have, never will. So this is the perfect arrangement, for both of us.

Nobody would approve, but nobody has to know…

About Sarina Bowen

Sarina Bowen writes steamy, angsty contemporary romance from Vermont's Green Mountains. (Her ancestors began logging and farming Vermont during the 18th century. These were rugged, outdoor types without benefit of a laptop or a good latte. It boggles the mind.)

Sarina enjoys skiing, skating and good food. She lives in Windsor County, Vermont, with her family, eight chickens and too much ski gear and hockey equipment.
