20 Books We’ve Been Meaning to Read

Posted March 16, 2018 by Under the Covers Book Blog in Reading on the Dark Side, Under the Covers / 22 Comments

We all have those books that have been sitting on our shelf (physical or otherwise) for days…weeks…months…years that we have just never gotten around to reading. We look at them fondly and think “One day”, but that one day never seems to come around. It could be that we are a few books behind in a series we’ve been following or even a series that we keep meaning to start but just haven’t picked up the first book yet. So, here are our top 20 books that we’ve been meaning to read! And we will read…eventually.

I’m ashamed to say that I still haven’t read books from some of my favorite authors. I don’t know why I haven’t jumped at reading them. I actually have the books ready and loaded on my Kindle, but for whatever reason, I’m still waiting for the right mood to read them. The first one is SHADOW’S SEDUCTION by Kresley Cole. Part of one of my fave PNR series, I still don’t know why I haven’t read this M//M story. The same goes for DRAGONMARK by Sherrilyn Kenyon and THE DARKEST PROMISE by Gena Showalter. Both authors are fave PNR authors of mine. I just need to be in a Paranormal mood to finally read them. With the recent passing of the Mystery Goddess, Sue Grafton, I really want to read X, which is one of her latest books that I haven’t read in the Kinsey Millhone series. And lastly, I want to finish up the Chicago Stars series by SEP with DREAM A LITTLE DREAM.

There are so many series that I want to catch up on but also some I want to start.  Picking only a few is a hard task!  But here are some that come to mind right away.  TATIANA AND ALEXANDER by Paullina Simons.  I started the journey with these characters a few years ago and I haven’t gone back.  I need to know how their epic journey ends.  To switch things up I have an erotic romance because  I’ve been on the lookout for new to me erotic authors and I want to try AMERICAN QUEEN by Sierra Simone.  Another book that always comes highly recommended and I want to pick up is RADIANCE by Grace Draven.  Speaking of authors I see highly rated and I haven’t tried, I’ve meaning to read KEYSTONE by Dannika Dark.  And finally I want to start reading a UF series by an erotic romance author, STEAL THE LIGHT by Lexi Blake.  I’m just curious to see how I’ll like this.

So many books…so little time! I have quite a few series that I need to catch up on but, as I keep doing, I’m going to shove them aside for the series and books that I haven’t even started yet. But I will do. One day.

Maiden Lane series by Elizabeth Hoyt

Let’s start with some Historical Romance, I am desperate to start Elizabeth Hoyt’s Maiden Lane series. I’ve been told I will love this series and I I’m inclined to agree as I already adore the other books I have read from her. Her books always have something slightly different about them, usually in the type of characters she uses for her hero or heroine, which is why her Princes series is still one of my ultimate favourite historical romance series.

The Iron Druid Chronicles by Kevin Hearne

Although I love Urban Fantasy…I confess what caught my eye with this series is the covers; the rugged guy in an understated action pose. It appeals to me. Then I read the blurb and realised that more than the eye-catching cover called to me. It sounds like an exciting mixture of magic, action and mythology which are some of my favourite things, especially when they are mixed in with handsome tattooed, red-haired hero.

Red Rising Saga by Pierce Brown

This YA Sci-Fi set in a dystopian world has been on my radar for a while. I’ve heard so many good things, which has made me a little wary, I have read universally loved books before and left wondering what the heck I was missing. As I will be going into this book with sky-high expectations it will have to be spectacular not to let me down a little. Which is probably why I have been putting it off.

Wildcat series by Rachel Vincent

Rachel Vincent’s Pride series was a solid offering to the Urban Fantasy genre. It had many good points; I loved the violent and close knit world of shifters, but it also had its bad points, which, for me, centred around the main character. So, Lion’s Share, the first book in the Wildcat as a spin off of the Pride series has been sat on my shelf for a while. It features characters I’ve already met from the Pride series, characters I liked and am really pleased that Vincent has decided to give them their own book.

I-Team series by Pamela Clare

I’m always saying that I never read much Romantic Suspense and that I don’t know where to start. Clearly I need to start checking out my TBR shelf! I’ve wanted to read this series for a while, yet somehow it always escapes my attention. When I next need some action fueled romance, Clare’s I-Team series will be where I look.

There are so many books I want to read, and realistically getting to them is just mind-boggling. Here are some books/series I’ve been meaning to catch up with and actually plan to get too soon…hopefully, First is Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Chronicles of Nick series which is closely tied to one of my fave, The Dark Hunter series. I think this is critical at this point as there is a lot going on that I”m missing. Another series is JR Ward’s The Bourbon King Series. I read the first book, but I just haven’t had the time to get to the rest. Lara Adrian’s Midnight Breed Series is another one I have to catch up to. I’m four books behind on this one. Anne Bishop’s The Other Series is also on my list. I just need to read one book, and I’m up to date in time for the next release in March. Last, is the Knitting in the City series by Penny Reid which I’m working on now and loving it.

Hearne and Butcher as two of my all time favorite urban fantasy writers. You will love the Iron Druid series and should also try the Dresden Files.

I was emotionally spent after reading Sierra Simone’s American Queen series, but I couldn’t put it down.

I have so many books on my TBR list it’s overwhelming. I started Knitting in the City and need to get back into it and finish.

If you like audio books, try the Iron Druid series that way. It’s the only series I listen to before I read it!

I started Knitting in the City. I got the first two for free. I highly recommend finishing The Bourbon Kings. I want to read AMERICAN QUEEN. I’m finally caught up on the Midnight Breed. The Wildcats series is as exciting as the first series. I’m several books behind on the DarkHunters series.
