It’s always a bit sad when Christmas is over and you are now left with a million leftovers and the prospect of having to get back to work again. However, with 2018 approaching we want to bring you something to encourage you to tackle the start of the new year with good cheer and enthusiasm. And what could be better than some new books? These are the books that have us racing towards 2018 with delight as we cannot wait to get our hands all over them. It’s an exciting year ahead and we can’t wait to find some 5 star reads!
THE THIEF by J.R. Ward
My, my what a surprise…bet you didn’t think that this release would be here! If you’ve been with us for any length of time here at UTC, then you know that Ward’s books are always at the top of our list, paranormal or not. I’m looking forward to this release mostly because I really want to see what comes of Assail, Sola, and even The Band of Bastards. Hopefully, we’ll get some of the answers that we’ve been waiting for!
OCEAN LIGHT by Nalini Singh
As SILVER SILENCE was one of my favourite reads for 2017 and I have no doubt that OCEAN LIGHT will be one of my favourites for 2018. Singh’s Psy-Changeling series manages to tug on the heart strings with her blend of humour, romance and friendships and it seems her spin off trilogy is no different. I can’t wait to get my hands on OCEAN LIGHT and once again dive in to that world.
STYGIAN by Sherrilyn Kenyon
Kenyon’s 29ths book of her very complex Dark Hunter series also 7th of the Lords of Avalon series. Like I said, it’s complicated. This book is a long-anticipated for me. Urian is another tortured, sad, and resentful character trying to survive his past of losing his Phoebe. But after years of sadness……(SPOILER)…….She is still alive. I can’t wait to read Urian’s HEA.
THE DARKEST WARRIOR by Gena Showalter
This is my most anticipated book in this series in a while because it’s Gilly’s book. It’s also a bit of a heartbreak because I’ve been expecting for years that she’d end up with William. BUT, I put my trust fully in Gena Showalter that she’s chosen the right thing and that she’ll deliver two awesome stories for these characters. If they made better sense apart, then I’m all for it and can’t wait to dive in.
BLOOD FURY by J.R. Ward
Peyton is a character that has intrigued me from the beginning so I’m dying to know what happens next. Plus, Saxton will also be getting his HEA. Say it with me, guys…IT’S ABOUT DAMN TIME!!!
DEATH DOESN’T BARGAIN by Sherrilyn Kenyon
The second installment of Kenyon’s Deadman’s Cross series. Set in the Dark Hunter World but in a golden pirate age. I suppose this is a PNR/Historical Fantasy. I believe this one is about Kalder and Cameron. Kalder had sacrificed himself for the crew in the last installment and Cameron is determined to rescue him. I think it will be a kick-ass heroine kind of book. I can’t believe a pirate book has made it to my anticipated read but there you go.
CROSS BREED by Lora Leigh
Talk about waiting years for a story, am I right Breeds fans? We met Cassie in the third book of this series. She was just eight years old but we’ve seen her grow into a kick ass independent woman throughout this series. And with every release we keep asking… when are we getting Cassie’s story? The hint as to who her mate was happened way back so many years back that we’ve been left salivating for a really long time. I almost can’t believe the wait is finally over. CASSIE’S STORY!!!!!
HOT AND BADGERED by Shelly Laurenston
Who knew a series about vicious honey badger shifters would get me so excited? But it does. Laurenston’s book have a wicked sense of humour and heroines I’m not sure I want to be besties with or I just want to run and hide from. Which, is why I love her, she writes romances full of insane yet hilarious antics, raunchy sex and adorable heroes that just have to try and keep up.
DR. STRANGE BEARD by Penny Reid
Ah Penny Reid, how I adore thee! This is the fifth in her Winston Brother series and I can’t wait to get my hands on it. Her books never fail to be quirky, funny and thoughtful, a unique blend that appears to be my cat nip.
MAN CARD by Sarina Bowen and Tanya Eby
After reading the first in this series, I cannot wait to get my hands on this one. I think the humor is spot on and the characters are so much fun. This will be a joy to read (and then book 3 as well!)
UNTIL HARMONY & STUMBLING INTO LOVE by Aurora Rose Reynolds
I tumbled on to Aurora Rose Reynolds in 2017 and managed to devour nearly everything she has released. Now, in 2018 I have to wait like everyone else! STUMBLING INTO LOVE is the second in her Fluke my Life series and I can’t wait to see what alpha hero Reynolds will throw at me. UNTIL HARMONY is the fourth in her Until Her series, which tells the stories of the daughters of the sexy Mayson men from her Until Him series. Somehow I manage to lust after the heroine’s dad as well as the heroine’s sexy alpha male all at once.
MARRIAGE OF INCONVENIENCE by Penny Reid
I’m almost afraid to get this book. It means it’s the end of the Knitting in the City series! And, although I have been wanting Kat’s story since I first noticed the chemistry between her and Dan I just don’t want it to end. I will miss my favourite knitting group and their wacky but loving friendships. But, as much as I know I want to savour this last book, I know I will devour it as soon as I get my hands on it, I can’t help myself, Reid reels me in and doesn’t let me go until the very last page.
SEX, NOT LOVE by Vi Keeland
I’m a huge Vi Keeland fan because I always know I’m going to have a good time when I read one of her books. And that’s exactly why her books always end up on my most anticipated lists. With this one, it has to live up to EGOMANIAC which was the first release she had in 2017 and my first book boyfriend. I’m ready for it!
HIDDEN SEAMS by Alessandra Torre
I’m both excited and nervous about this one. Sometimes I really enjoy her books and others I’m left a bit disappointed. I can’t quite figure out where this one will fall and that keeps me dragginng me back to read her books!
A CRACK IN EVERYTHING by L.H. Cosway
I don’t think there’s a whole lot to say about this one. It’s a new L.H. Cosway series!!! OMG!!! Cue the fangirl squeeing.
THE ONE YOU CAN’T FORGET by Roni Loren
I’m totally cheating because I already read the first book in this series (otherwise I’d be listing both so put both on your to read lists). But after reading that first book I’m dying to keep exploring the world with these characters and I’m so ready for another intense ride.
LAKE SILENCE by Anne Bishop
The Others series is such a unique series. Bishop’s twist on paranormal creatures where they own the Earth and, barely, allow humans to exist in it, despite preferring to just eat them is fascinating. And creepy. And terrifying. It’s also compulsive reading as human and Other relations change due to the relationship between Meg, a human prophet and Simon an Other Wolf who protects her. In LAKE SILENCE though we move away from the familiar characters of Meg, Simon and the crew and I can’t wait to see what happens with this new shift in perspective.
MAGIC TRIUMPHS by Ilona Andrews
I missed out on a Kate Daniels book last year, which means I am now desperate for May to arrive so I can get my hands on this book. I need it. The situation in Atlanta is tense and I can’t wait to see what Kate, Curran and co will do next, what moves Roland, contender for worst father of the millennium, will make and whether Atlanta will survive a clash between them.
BURN BRIGHT by Patricia Briggs
If I didn’t already love this series, I would have to pick this up, look how beautiful the cover is! However, I feel certain the promise of the lovely cover will be kept by Briggs fantastic writing. I’m excited to finally get back to Anna and Charles one of my favourite couples in UF as they face yet more danger that only their unique skills can over come.
HIGH VOLTAGE by Karen Marie Moning
The next book in the Fever Saga, KMM has got me all kinds of excited for this new installment. I have huge expectations and I’m honestly worried about what will happen to all my beloved characters, but if there’s one author that I can trust to write an amazing book, it’s KMM!
CHARLEY DAVIDSON #13 by Darynda Jones
This is the final book of Darynda Jones’ Charley Davidson series. No official title yet as far as I know. It’s been a quite a ride following this series. I am very sad that it’s the last and I’m very excited and nervous to see how things will end. Readers were left with a cliffhanger in The Trouble with Twelfth Grave, so the anticipation is a bit daunting. But I am confident Jones will give her readers, Charley, and Reyes a proper ending. This book is at the very top of my most anticipated read for 2018.
DANCE OF THIEVES by Mary E. Pearson
This one is a new series set in Pearson’s The Remnant Chronicles which I love so much. I’m not too sure if this will be in the same time frame though. Looks like there will be a queen that could be the heroine of The Remnant Chronicles but again, I’m not too sure. I’m just super excited to get more of this world and Pearson’s work.
RAGE by Cora Carmack
The two covers alone in this series put this book in my top reads; such beautiful covers. This story is of kingdoms, survival, and magic wielding. It also has a very strong female heroine which I adore. Love the first book and I’m excited to know what will happen next.
ONE SMALL THING by Erin Watt
I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the first book I read by Erin Watt this year (WHEN IT’S REAL) and I’m really looking forward to reading more of that.
THE DARK CALLING by Kresley Cole
OMG we finally have a date! If you’re a fan of this series then you’ve been anxiously waiting for this release since … the last book came out. And then there was the whole “it was supposed to release in the summer” thing which didn’t happen. But people, we have a date! THE DARK CALLING is coming February 13, 2018 and I’m counting down the days. With excitement and fear.
HELLO STRANGER by Lisa Kleypas
It’s Lisa Kleypas! Queen of all things historical romance. It’s no surprise that we are all so excited for another book in this series but also I’m especially excited because the heroine in this one is the only female physician in England. I’ve really enjoyed the way Ms. Kleypas is exploring female roles in this series and I can’t wait to see a character I’ve come to really like throughout the series push back on society’s boundaries and love.
A SCANDAL BY ANY OTHER NAME by Kimberly Bell
Kimberly Bell’s THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING SCANDALOUS was on of my favourite books of 2017, which means I am not desperate to get my hands on the next book in that series A SCANDAL BY ANY OTHER NAME. You get a glimpse of the hero and heroine in the first book, although they have yet to meet. But, I know they will be perfect for another and I can’t wait to see my prediction proved correct.
THIS FALLEN PREY by Kelley Armstrong
I love Armstrong’s Women of the Otherworld UF series, but in her Casey Duncan series Armstrong also shows us what a fantastic thriller writer she is. Not only does she give us a macabre murder to be investigated that keeps you guessing right to the very end, she has imbued this whole series with an eerie and isolated atmosphere. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series to see what Casey has to face next.
BONES DON’T LIE by Melinda Leigh
My first taste of Melinda Leigh was with the Morgan Dane series and I haven’t looked back since. Her brand of thriller has me furiously turning pages, not only because I wanted the mystery to be solved, but because the characters are so likeable. Morgan Dane has a lot on her plate, widowed young with three young children she is just about to start up her career as a lawyer again. Only, it didn’t quite go as expected and she know works with a PI for those who come to her for help. Whatever case Morgan gets next, I know it will be an exciting read full of family drama, a little romance and lots of thrills!
KEEP HER SAFE by K.A. Tucker
I’m really curious about this book because I really enjoyed Ms. Tucker’s full-on thriller HE WILL BE MY RUIN and I can’t wait to see something like that but with the added small element of romance. I’ve enjoyed some of her more traditional romances and I think this will be just the right mix for me.
DEATH BELOW STAIRS by Jennifer Ashley
I normally read Jennifer Ashley as I love her historical romance series the Mackenizes & McBrides. However, when I saw she is starting a historical murder mystery series I knew it was going to have to give it a try. DEATH BELOW STAIRS is the first in the Kat Holloway Mysteries series and I can’t wait to see what it has in store for.
INTO THE BLACK NOWHERE by Meg Gardiner
INTO THE BLACK NOWHERE is the second in Gardiner’s UNSUB series. The first book was a creepy and atmospheric read, it literally keeps you on the edge of your seat. I am hoping that the second book is much the same, especially as their is high intelligent, yet unhinged serial killer on the loose!
DARK IN DEATH by J.D. Robb
It’s Eve and Roarke, need I say more? Robb’s books are always, ALWAYS at the top of my most anticipated books. There’s just something so comforting about reading about them, even if it’s admist all the murder and mystery. Their romance continues to grow and I love the world that Robb has created for these characters. It never makes me want to leave.
HEART ON FIRE by Amanda Bouchet
Can you believe this is the last in the series already? I can’t wait to see how the Kingmaker Chronicles conclude. If you haven’t started this fantasy series than you need to give it a try, it’s a fantastic mixture of magic, myth and romance.
THROUGH A DARK GLASS & A CHOICE OF CROWNS by Barb Hendee
The first two books in the Dark Glass series by Barb Hendee are out this year, I can’t wait! They are such an interesting concept, a magic mirror shows someone during a pivotal moment in their life the consequences of each decision they can make. Once they’ve been shown, they can then make the choice. But, what will they choose? Love, power, respect, family…you don’t find out unless you read!
DANGEROUS PROMISE by Megan Hart
I’m a huge Megan Hart fan and aside from that it’s no secret that I prefer my sci-fi alien-less. This series sounds just like what I’m looking for and it couldn’t be coming at a better time for me. I always struggle to find sci-fi romance reads and I’m sure Ms. Hart will deliver what I need.
IRON GOLD by Pierce Brown
Man, I can’t believe we’re finally going to get this book! It feels like a long time since the previous books have come out, so I have some pretty high expectations for this novel. Hopefully, it will encompass everything I enjoyed about the first books and more!
