Take a seat, grab some popcorn and an ice refreshing beverage and lets Netflix and chill. No you dirty minded individuals not like that, we want to share with you some recommendations about what we are watching and listening to. For those times when you just need to put your book down and plonk in front of the TV and relax. Whether it’s on Netflix, Amazon Prime, regular TV channels or a podcast, we are going to let you know what shows, films and podcasts we’ve been enjoying and share the love.
Guys I have nothing exciting for you this month unless you’re feeling the Christmas spirit! As the holidays near I don’t have any “binging TV shows” time and this year even less than normal. All that aside, I have a few things to share with you. I watched the PassionFlix movie in November which was Afterburn, Aftershock based on the book by Sylvia Day. *sigh* I was actually excited about this because I enjoyed the story years ago when I read it. I have to be honest and say this was a bit of a fail for me. At first I thought the acting was better than in Hollywood Dirt but that opinion quickly changed. A lot of the scenes between Jax and Gia felt awkward and I think it’s in big part because of the actor playing Jax. This movie didn’t draw me in like Hollywood Dirt did and I had no trouble looking away and doing other stuff while this movie played in the background. Is it sad that I liked Gia’s brother the best in the movie? I have higher hopes for December’s movie and the great thing is that I haven’t read the book so I’m hoping that means I’ll be able to judge on the movie alone and maybe be more involved in it. The Trouble with Mistletoe premieres on PassionFlix on ENTER DATE IF ANNOUNCED.
Other than that I’ve been watching my regularly scheduled programs… The Voice (OMG how much do I love Addison Agen‘s voice!!), This Is Us, Gold Rush and Outlander. Most shows have been a bit lackluster this season for some reason.
Aside from those few TV shows, you can find me binging Christmas movies!!! I watched every new Hallmark Channel one so far, a couple on UP TV and I even managed to catch A Very Country Christmas which I had to stop and watch because the hero is played by Greyston Holt, whom I liked since seeing him in the show Bitten years ago.
So, DH and I are now updated in seasons 1-4 of Vikings via Netflix. We are ready for Season 5 Episode 1 which released November 29th. I have to tell you though, the last season has not been all that exciting for me. The plot has been a bit boring and redundant given all they want to do is attack other kingdoms. The love story I followed has also died out not to mention that the main character I liked died. So, I’m not sure if I want to continue but DH was adamant about finishing hoping the current season will have a good come back. He also wants to jump unto The Walking Dead bandwagon, but I think we’ll play it by ear for now. Still, nothing is good as Game of Thrones.
And far as movies go, I took my daughters to see Coco and I have to say that this is a must watch movie whether in the theaters or via On Demand. I thought the animation was pretty awesome. I love that it touches on death, afterlife, and awareness of love for family in different generations. The Mexican Culture/Traditions which is the base of the story, are very similar to Filipino’s traditions which made it very easy for me to relate to. I love that the underlying plot or story really boiled down to Coco and it just about blew my mind. What I didn’t expect is the emotions this movie pulled out of me and my girls. We were all so very touched. Go see it!!!
I don’t normal watch much, I’m more inclined to listen to podcasts, but this month I’ve been knocking the dust off my ancient TV and have found some programmes I have really liked. I started watching Bitten as I really love Kelley Armstrongs Otherworld series, it’s one of my favourite UFs, and this series is based on those books. At least, that’s why I started watching them…by the end I was watching it for very different reasons. The bottoms. More specifically Clay’s. It was a thing of beauty, quite unlike the TV series itself, which felt over wrought and the characters very irritating. Unless Clay was taking his clothes off, as he frequently does through out, and my mind got distracted by other more peachy things.
The other programme I watched, which although didn’t have Greyston Holt’s magnificent buns, was just as thrilling was Castlevania. Castlevania was definitely the favourite thing I watched this month, it was an animated horror-action series based on a video game. Don’t let the fact that it is animated fool you, this is very much for adults and it immediately hooked me, after Dracula losses the wife he loves, he vows revenge on Wallachia and unleashes a hell army. Our reluctant hero is a disgraced nobleman who must, with aid from friends, stop him. At the moment it only has 4 episodes, something I didn’t know when I started watching it and was speechless with rage when I realised I had to wait to see what happened next. But, the rage was worth it, it was a fantastic 4 episodes.
Finally, I saw Justice League at the cinema. Now, I haven’t been a huge fan of any of the DC films, they just haven’t had the punch of the Marvel ones until recently and I especially don’t really like anything with Superman or Ben Affleck. However, I adored Justice League! I may even have liked it more than Thor…but that could have been because I got a double whammie of shirtless hotties with Jason Momoa and Henry Cavill. But, my perviness aside, it was a good film, I enjoyed all the characters and watching them form a team to take on the Big Bad. If you like your superhero films then this is a must watch, we were all burnt by the awful mess that was Batman vs Superman, but Justice League does a lot to heal the hurt.
This month I finally finished Strong Girl Bong-Soon and I have to say that I did enjoy it better than most K-Dramas, so much so that it might actually be one of my faves. I loved how hilarious and sweet it was. If I had only one complaint, it would be that the pacing was sometimes off but I did enjoy the mystery/suspense subplot and all the hot mancandy 🙂
After this, I think I’ll be returning to finish off Oh My Ghost, which features the same actress of Bong-Soon. I already love the culinary aspect of the series and enjoy the humor so I’m sure it will continue to be a fun show.
I’m struggling to finish Yuri on Ice which is surprising for me. I thought I would enjoy it more since I finished Free! Eternal Summer within a day. But something about this Sports Romance anime feels off to me. It’s not as engaging and I’m struggling with liking the characters even though they are cute together. Maybe I’m expecting too much but I will try to finish it next month anyway since it is a shorter series.
What are you all watching/listening to?
