Each of us girls have very definite tastes here at Under the Covers. We know what we like and we get excited about sharing this with you. We can’t help but share when our favourite books are coming out and want to share the joy with as many people as we can. And this is one of the ways we want to do it. Each month we will give you our pick of the bunch, the cream of the crop, the top shelf books! Basically, the ones that we are just itching for you to get your hands on. The kind of books where the year wait is always worth it; where you may have drawn plans to go a little Kathy Bates, but with less sledgehammer action and more hot cups of tea and custard creams – we don’t want to scare the muse away after all. These are the books we are just dying for you to read next month!
[new-release title=”Year One” author=”Nora Roberts”]
As soon as I finished reading this, I knew I had made a mistake. Why did I read it? Why? Because now I am going to have to wait a whole damn year to see what happens next! I want to know now! I literally could not put Year One down. I started reading it on a Sunday evening and did not stop till I finished it in the early hours of Monday I then spent that Monday in a total book haze. Year One was like a mixture of The Others series by Anne Bishop and The Walking Dead, two of my favourite things, it had a crew of characters I couldn’t get enough of, action, magic, a spot of romance and it commences what I imagine will be an epic skirmish between the forces of light and dark. What more could a girl ask for…apart from book two?
I’m struggling to narrow this down to only one book to recommend for December so I have to pick two!
[new-release title=”Can’t Get Enough” author=”Gena Showalter”]
First off, this can be read as a standalone. However, if you’ve been following along with the series you know Brock is the one night stand king. He’s also been very interested in the one girl that is not his usual and one that would need a much more caring hand than he feels he can deliver. Lyndie came out of an abusive marriage and wants to rebuild her life all on her own, without leaning on anyone. Then in comes a marriage of convenience. Brock needs a wife to claim his inheritance and Lyndie could use Brock’s help to get pregnant. I loved the chemistry and banter between these two and I thought the marriage of convenience plot was PERFECT for this story. You’re in for a sweet and flirty small town romance treat!
[new-release title=”Man Hands” author=”Sarina Bowen”]
A man with a big …. tool belt, his own remodeling show in the HGTV-like channel…. and a sex tape! Well, said sex tape stars Tom and the heroine of this book, Brynn, who jumps (literally) his bones at a party while she thought he was just the gardener and she was taunted by her BFFs to do something wild. If you are in the mood for something fun, look no further than MAN HANDS. Brynn came out from a divorce with a beaten down self esteem and unemployed. Tom has had his own share of bad decisions and media lately and is laying low, licking his wounds. They literally crash together and then the world explodes around them (hehe sex tape remember?) They are so good and perfect together! This may be one of my fave romantic comedies this year because it doesn’t have to resort to having over the top humor to make me laugh. The main characters and lovable and so cute together, the side characters are a hoot (OMG I need Ash’s book seriously now, good thing it comes out in January) and this is one of those few exceptions when the author does a curvy girl well. Also, I see a theme in my recs for this month because they both have fake relationships. 😉
[new-release title=”Once Upon a Christmas Eve” author=”Elizabeth Hoyt”]
I can’t believe it’s already December! This month I’m most excited about the last installment to the Maiden Lane series by Elizabeth Hoyt. The first reason is because it’s a holiday themed book, so you know I was going to be excited for it. I’m such a sucker for a cozy holiday book. And the second main reason why I’m recommending this book to you is because this is another novella that surprised me. The hero of this book was one that I liked from the previous books in the series but never thought I would get to see again. So getting this short story was such a great surprise. This story is full of banter and Christmas charm, a perfect read to warm you up and get you into the holiday spirit.
[new-release title=”So Over You” author=”Kate Meader”]
But wait… there’s more!
[new-release title=”The Hookup” author=”Kristen Ashley”]
Also in December we get a new series by Kristen Ashley that, if we do say so ourselves, brings back that old-school KA feel we all love. Another winner by Kristen Ashley you won’t want to miss.
