ALIENS VS WEREWOLVES
It’s finally come to that time to where we can address that age old question…Aliens vs Werewolves. I thought our 2017 After Dark event would be a perfect time to put this question to rest. What type of hero or heroine is better, an alien or a werewolf. Now, for some of your, I bet you don’t have to think about this at all, you’ve immediately answered the question. However, this is a particularly hard question for me as I adore both, the ruggedly sexy and fierce werewolves and those mysterious, jewel hued, extra appendaged aliens. So, for those of you who have made you decision already I implore you to read on! Listen to my thoughts and arguments for the opposing side, you never know you might find something you like.
To try and structure my argument in an attempt to stop me waffling on, I am going to divide it in to three separate topics and discuss each one in regard to aliens and werewolves. So bring the syrup, as you have three waffles going on here! These three very scientific topics are:
- Fighting Prowess (aka, who would win in a fight (over me))
- Realism (aka, how likely in real life is it that I will be swept off my feet)
- Physical Characteristics (aka, how sexy are they?)
Werewolves may seem to have the edge here, after all they are well known for their physicality and their animal instincts. Especially if we are talking about an alpha werewolves, which, when in the realms of romance, we usually are. They are stronger than a normal man, faster than a normal man and lets not forget the pointy teeth and razor sharp claws, all ready and waiting to tear out the throat of any contender stupid enough to start a fight with them. Can anyone else forget the terrible visage of the Lykae from Kresley Cole’s Immortals After Dark series? Whose eyes start to glow and already fabulously large bodies seem to grow. Then their are the Wolves from Anne Bishops Others series, who just view us puny humans as a food source.
So werewolves look like they’ve got a fight all pinned down right? But do they? Who knows what powers the extraterrestrials are packing. The little green men that may come to mind when you think “alien” isn’t too scary, but no one knows what is out there. They could be psychic, they could have 10 arms all expertly wielding a weapon, they could spit poison into your eyeballs… the possibilities are endless. The mystery of aliens is what makes them so exciting. However, in a fight, I know a few aliens that could put werewolves to the test. There’s Kenyon’s characters from The League series, each one more lethal than the next, from assassins and warriors, even nobility (sometimes all three!) there isn’t a fight these guys can’t best.
Kick Ass Werewolves and Aliens
For me, no matter what the story line, whether it’s set in outer space or in a deep dark forest full of folks that get furry in the moonlight, the story and world have to make sense. What the author constructs has to be sound enough for a family of four to move in and set up house, if it all starts to fall apart than they’ve lost me. Mostly. What I want is a story I can walk in to and think “Oh this might happen to me,” no matter if it’s aliens coming down and kidnapping me to save their ailing race or if a werewolf claps eyes on my lovely self and realises we are fated mates. I want to finish reading a book all starry eyes and hopeful.
Do I think there are werewolves out there…probably not, I think the origins of werewolves fascinating, but conversely it’s led me to believe there are no such thing. However, after having read Patrica Briggs’ Mercy Thompson and Alpha & Omega series, it got me thinking…are werewolves about to declare themselves? Briggs fully sucked you right into her narrative.
In regards to aliens…who the hell knows? To I think people get abducted and probed? Probably not, if aliens have mastered space travel, they must have a better way of examining humans than sticking objects in their orifices…one would hope. However, I always thought it would be rather lonely if we were the only living creatures in the universe, so I am inclined to believe. Another reason to believe is Gena Showalter’s Alien Huntress series, where aliens now live freely amongst us, only some of them aren’t quite as law abiding as would be hoped, hence the “Huntress” part of the series. It’s an interesting world, full of all kind of sexy aliens as both heroes and heroines.
Most Realistic Aliens and Werewolves
Call me superficial, but we all want our werewolves and aliens being physically attractive, no one wants a mangy ragged wolf or a slimy, warty alien. Nor am I asking them to be subscribe to societies view of male or female beauty. However, they have got to attractive in some way. Maybe it’s the way they hold themselves, with that air of authority or charisma, perhaps you like the look of their horns, or maybe it’s the sexy smirk, or the way their tail swishes along behind them (this can be either werewolf OR alien!). So, werewolves or aliens, whose ‘physical characteristics’ do we love best?
Well, werewolves may have it slightly harder as they have two forms, their human and their wolf. When imagining werewolves, I don’t see GQ models, I see men in (open) plaid shirts and jeans holding big tools and lifting heavy objects *mind deliciously wanders*. And who doesn’t love that? And wolves are beautiful animals, who doesn’t want to have a friendly one of their own? This strength and rugged, manly physical beauty is perfectly captured in Nalini Singhs Psy-Changeling series, her SnowDancer pack loves the outdoors and physical activity and I think I have managed to fall in love with every last one of them!
It seems like werewolves may have the edge here. But, I don’t think so. Out in romance land, aliens some in so many different shapes and sizes (and I’m not even including cyborgs in all this!) that whether you like ethereally beautiful or something more…interesting than it will cater for you. Personally I am a fan of blue aliens. I don’t know what it is but when I see a book that has blue aliens in it, I’ll give it a try. Positive discrimination at its best! Then their are the guys with horns, tails, two cocks, scales, translucent skin…. if you are a bit adventurous then there is an alien out there for you. If you aren’t adventurous, there are still plenty of aliens out there for you as well! However, my blue alien recommendation, who also happen to have tail’s and a horns is Ruby Dixon’s Ice Planet Barbarians. I love that series, her aliens are super sexy and super sweet, I can’t help but adore them!
Sexiest Aliens and Werewolves
My verdict? There is no verdict! I love them both and I can’t decide. But, I intend to have plenty of fun exploring my love of both aliens and werewolves. Why restrict myself when I don’t have to? There are plenty of books that I love featuring werewolves and aliens that I didn’t get to mention above, so there are some more recommendations below if you are looking for a place to start, or pick something up that you haven’t read before. But, please let me know…?
What’s your verdict? Aliens or Werewolves?

Annnnnd I will stop myself there, before I start waxing lyrical about my love of historical romance and fantasy as well; no one needs to know about my elf fantasies. As you can tell, I adore and day dream about most romance genres, and my three big loves are 1) reading about romance 2) writing about romance and 3) talking about romance with my gals. Which, is why I love Under the Covers so much, I get all my bookish needs satisfied and don’t get judged when I talk about my favourite characters like they are real people. Which they are right?
