“It’s not you, it’s me. No, really.”
~ Under the Covers
It’s not you, it’s me. No, really. Five/Six years ago I probably would’ve been all over this book. But reading tastes change and that was the downfall of this book for me. The story and concept just annoyed me and as much as I tried to get past it, I just couldn’t in the end.
What I wished the blurb had mentioned was that this book centers around an escort company because lately I just steer clear. This trope hasn’t worked for me in a long time and sadly this book wasn’t the exception. Here’s the gist of it. The hero and his siblings own an escort company which apparently makes an absurd amount of money (I rolled my eyes at what seemed to be the company sales) and serves only the highest clients. For a while, Gavin and Emma just have quick glances of each other at a coffee shop not knowing who the other is. She’s a librarian lusting after what looks like a successful man in a suit. He doesn’t seem to give her the time of day until one day he leaves his card with every intention of her finding it. The fact that such card doesn’t have a way to contact him and a simple google search on the term Forbidden Pleasures somehow lands her on his company website was already a bit far-fetched for me. Really? I would think that would be like a needle in a haystack. But he’s a gazillionaire so maybe he’s got a really good SEO team on staff. Then Emma ends up in the middle of what seems like an interview for an escort position and Gavin decides she’ll be the personal escort for himself and his brother. That’s about all I’m going to say.
Like I said before, it’s me not the book. This setup I just mentioned would’ve been in my must-read list years ago. In fact, I’ve read it many times by many authors. Maybe it’s the fact that I’ve read so many of these and now I don’t have any interest? I just couldn’t help wanting to pull my hair out at the unrealistic storyline in my eyes, the quick jump to seduction from both brothers and even the lack of definition if this would be a triangle or a triad type of story.
Maybe had I been more invested in the characters I would’ve enjoyed this more, but Gavin is a bit of a mystery which I’m sure will unfold in the second book. The brothers had a hard past to overcome and he’s a hard man to deal with. I just couldn’t fall for him in this one and I’m not sure I’m invested enough to find out all about him in the next one. And Emma isn’t the type of heroine that I love to read but she’s very much the type that fits in this story.
If you read and enjoy authors like Lexi Blake and Shayla Black and even some of Maya Banks older books, then you may enjoy this one.

I get easily distracted by pictures of sexy guys and have tons of book boyfriends.I keep all my alpha males chained to my basement and guard them fiercely.*Back off bitches*I like to see Jason Momoa as a lot of those boyfriends, because ….. mmmmmmm JASON.MOMOA!
I’m a part time graphic designer (yes, everything you see on UTC has been done by me), run my husband's business from home and on a good day I’m a self appointed superwoman (she who can do it all).I love blogging with my girls and I couldn’t do it any other way!My first love is everything paranormal, but in the past few years I’ve re-learned to love contemporary romance.Every once in a while I like to mix things up with a historical romance, a steampunk or an LGBT book.Because I need variety to avoid book slumps.I don’t always need an HEA although I prefer one, and I love authors that can rip my heart out and make me ugly cry.
