TBR Jar Pick: Masters of the Shadowlands by Cherise Sinclair

If you’ve watched my TBR Jar video… here’s an update!

I’m so bad. I set up my TBR jar in December and yet here I am in April and I have yet to pick a gosh darn thing. That’s all about to change! I did the jar to help myself out of sticky book funk situations, which is exactly the place I find myself in now. So I’m taking the leap and sticking my hand in the jar and no matter what it says I’m going to read it. No take backsies, no second picks, the first one I select I’m going to read.

So, drum roll please….. the book I have picked is:

When I checked my shelf on Goodreads…apparently I have already read the first one! I don’t remember reading it, even after scanning the blurb so I will be starting Club Shadowlands next. I’m not sure if I’m excited about this or not, although the books have been on my shelf for a long time, I am not the biggest erotic romance reader. I never gravitate towards it, especially ones that occupy the BDSM erotic romance niche. So, I am both excited and a little daunted to start.

We have already read and reviewed these book on Under the Covers, so if you want to see what some of the other girls have had to say about this series, click on this sentence.

Have you picked anything from your TBR jar yet this year? Any fans of the Masters of the Shadowlands series?

I love this idea so much I started doing this when I first watched your video on YouTube!!! It works awesome!!! Shared on all my socials!!

Hi Kathy, I am glad my vid inspired you 🙂 I wish I had actually started using it sooner, I am excited to start these books and taking the choice away has made it so much easier!

Sophia Rose

Crossing my fingers for you, Suzanne. I’ve not read this series yet. I think I have book one.

Under the Covers Book Blog

Thanks Sophia, people seem to love this series so my hopes are pretty high. I will make sure I keep you all up to date on what I think

Angie M

I love this series! The couples are great, the friendships are awesome and the sex is hot! Cherise Sinclair is a wonderful author who writes with knowledge as well as heart.

Thanks Angie, I have had such positive feedback on these books I am glad I picked them out now, even if at first I was a little wary.

Terry DeMore

I not only have read all of these, I have bought the Kindle versions. (This is remarkable because I usually use my library.) Yes, they are really hot and a few situations made me cringe, but the characters are believable and the relationships develop in spite of obstacles. So lace up your bustier and prepare to be collared and cuffed by a Dom who treasures you and your submission.

Haha Terry, my bustier is now well laced and ready for some Dom action. It’s nice to see that this has more than just sex scene after sex scene in it, which is the reason I read little to no erotic romance.

I like this jar idea. I will have to do it. Sure beats looking at that mountain and trying to decide what I want to read next. As for your recent pick – LOVE that series! Have read them all. Yes they have the erotic BDSM stuff going on, but Ms Sinclair also writes a really good story that includes elements of suspense. These early ones are shorter and don’t contain as much suspense as later books, but are still worth the read as they introduce the club, set up the world and introduce many of the characters. They are… Read more »

Hi Pansy. That’s exactly why I started my jar, I had so many books on my kindle and on my bookshelf which have been hanging around but I had never read that it became intimidating. The jar makes it so much easier.

The more I hear about these books the more excited I am! Everyone has such great things to say, I am starting today and can’t wait.

Lynnette

I haven’t set up a TBR jar but I did go through all the books that have been gathering dust for far too long in December. I have set up a list of some of them and I am aiming to read them all this year. The list was between 60 and 70 long and I have read roughly 10 so far but I am trying to do it on a reward basis. For every two old books I read I get to read a new release. That isn’t quite working out but I feel like I have made progress… Read more »

Hi Lynette, it sounds like you are making great progress! 10 books is 10 more books than I have done off my TBR this year. By the end of the year you would have made a good dent into your list. I like your idea of rewarding yourself with a new release as well lol even if it isn’t quite working out how you expected!

JenM

I’m not a fan of BDSM in general, but I did happen to read the first 4 or so books in this series. Cherise Sinclair does a great job of writing romance that just happens to include BDSM. Her Shadowlands series was one of the first erotic romances to center on a BDSM club and has been much imitated, so if you are going to read any with that theme, these are the ones to read. Her books really are romances, not just sex scenes strung together with a bit of plot.

Under the Covers Book Blog

Hi Jen, I did hear that this was one of the first BDSM type romance reads…part of me was afraid I would just be reading an older version of Fifty Shades (a book I detest) but from all I am hearing that’s not the case.

Suzanne

Elizabeth

What a great idea! I have not gone to my tbr in quite a bit but I keep gravitating toward it so it’s just a matter of time. Also, I love the shadowlands series!

Under the Covers Book Blog

Heya Elizabeth, yes, this is my first pick and I made it almost three months ago!! I’m very ashamed of myself. I’m hoping this will be successful so that it won’t take me another 3 months to use it again!

Suzanne

Staci Faulds

I just got the jar I’m going to use for this but haven’t done it yet. It really is a good idea for those times you don’t know what to read.

Under the Covers Book Blog

Hi Staci, yes precisely, that’s what I am using it for, it helps me when I don’t know what to read, but also allows me to clear some of my back log of TBR books I have already bought, but not yet read. Good luck with your jar!

Suzanne

Timitra

Hope you enjoy it!

Thanks Timitra 🙂

The TBR jar sounds good but I’m such a mood reader I don’t think it would work for me unless I broke it done into genres.
