“I really would’ve liked to put myself in place of Faith for the duration of this book. That’s how much I enjoyed Dimitri.”
~ Under the Covers

FIRESTORM is book ten in the Dark Kings series by Donna Grant. Normally I would say it’s find to read these books as standalones but I feel like with ten books already out, it’s probably best to read them in order. Grant has been building this world for a very long time. Some series like this one are actually spin-offs from her other series but I don’t think you need to read those to enjoy this one.

I always enjoy Grant’s heroes in this series. While they are powerful and deadly, they don’t really come across as too otherworldly. Yes, they are dragon shifters and they do often talk like they are from another time, but there’s a relatable quality to them that makes them very easy to fall in love with. Take Dimitri for example. He takes loyalty very seriously and when something threatens that, his quiet personality becomes more intense. Dimitri is soft yet intense at the same time and I think he’s actually my favorite part of this book. He made me swoon on a lot of occasions as I was reading this book.

The heroine of the story is an arecheologist named Faith. Now I’m a bit of a sucker with archeologist characters. I just find them so fascinating so I was very much looking forward to getting to know Faith. While I enjoyed her career, I wasn’t so head over heels in love with Faith. She doesn’t do anything bad that makes me hate it, but I think it’s because Dimitri was so good of a character that she was overshadowed by him. I really would’ve liked to put myself in place of Faith for the duration of this book. That’s how much I enjoyed Dimitri.

So that being said, I did enjoy this book overall. I think Donna Grant’s specialty is within this genre so if you like dragons or highlanders and Paranormal Romance, then you need to check out Grant’s extensive backlist.

About Donna Grant

Donna Grant is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of the sizzling Dark King series featuring dragons, immortal Highlanders, and the Fae. She was born and raised in Texas but loves to travel. Her adventures have taken her throughout the United States as well as to Jamaica, Mexico, and Scotland. Growing up on the Texas/Louisiana border, Donna’s Cajun side of the family taught her the “spicy” side of life while her Texas roots gave her two-steppin’ and bareback riding. Despite deadlines and voracious reading, Donna still manages to keep up with her two children, four cats, and one long haired Chihuahua.

I’m an obsessive makeup junkie and a compulsive reader. I like to call Under the Covers Book Blog my stomping ground, but when I’m not talking about books with my girls, I write New Adult Dystopian and Contemporary Romance under the pen name Ana Jolene (http://www.anajolene.com). I also work as a virtual assistant for authors. You also can find me as a reviewer and columnist for FreshFiction.com.

When it comes to books I’m pretty adventurous. I read everything from Paranormal Romance to Urban Fantasy, New Adult, BDSM, LGBT fiction, Cozy Mysteries and even YA. If it’s got the littlest trace of romance in it, then I’ll probably read it. That being said, my all-time favorite authors are J.R. Ward and Karen Marie Moning.

When I’m not submerged in a good book, you can find me musing about makeup and planners or dreaming about Kpop boys and beaches. Until then, check out my reviews and let’s talk books!
