I looked at my past “Best Of” the past years and I can’t believe how far I’ve come as far as reading choices. Some have remained constant , for instance, series I follow or favorite author but definitely the genre has widened a bit.
Mercury Striking by Rebecca Zanetti
Scorpius Syndrome #1
I was utterly blown away with the post apocalyptic aspect of the story in this book and the romance softened the suspenseful edge just the right amount. Looking for an extraordinay romantic suspense read? This is the one for you!
He Will be My Ruin by K.A Tucker
I only read this book because Fran and Suzanne were raving about this book and it was one of the instances that their text just about blew up my phone. Surely, I wouldn’t have picked it up by its cover . They’re discussion on how good it was persuaded me to jump right in. Boy, they were right, it was non stop suspense and the author kept me needing to read each page after the next
Arcana Rising by Kresley Cole
The Arcana Chronicles #4
Okay, so not quite a new series but definitely a “new to me” series with the last book released this year. I devoured the books in this series in just a matter of a couple weeks. Cole not only mastered the area of writing paranormal romance, contemporary and wow…young adult as well. I can’t believe I waited to long to read this series It was damn good!
The Beauty of Darkness by Mary E. Pearson
The Remnant Chronicles #3
I looked through my TBR list and I realized that there are a few Young Adult books I’ve read with heroines that deserved to be in this category. But this year, I pick Lia from The Remnant Chroncles. I loved this girl from the beginning and until the end of this trilogy. Pearson did a wonderful job keeping her identity yet maturing to strong willed woman.
The Beast by J.R. Ward
Black Dagger Brotherhood #14
It’s Rhage, Need I say more?
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
Six of Crows #1
I was drawn to the color and velvity texture of this cover. Also, both books in this series have edges are colored. It’s pretty cool. Thank God the story was good enough to represent the cover.
A Court of Mist and Furyby Sarah J. Maas
A Court of Thorns and Roses #2
*sigh* I can’t even begin to tell you how disappointed I am with this book. But I can tell you that I dislike this book as much as I love the first installment. That book excelled on the world building, character build up, and romance was awe inspiring. But then, this book came out and all hell broke lose. Everything Maas built up in book one was thrown out the window. So much contradictions in the plot and the heroine annoyed me to no ends. It’s rare that I dislike a book this much and with that said…biggest let down.
The Curse of Tenth Grave by Darynda Jones
Charley Davidson #10
I picked Charley and Reyes to be my my Best Couple because despite how powerful they both are, they manage to stay grounded and together. From book one to the current release, this couple has yet to disappoint. When it comes to romance, they excel in keeping it strong.
The Player by Kresley Cole
The Game Maker #3
It’s been a while since I read this book but as I look at the books I’ve read this year, I realize I couldn’t remember any specific sex scenes However, I did a quick video review that said “it was so hot, I had to fan myself”. Cole does have a way to writing these kind of books. The Game Maker books has all been in my previous Best Of, including The Player. And according to my review, this has been one of the best of 2016.
J. R. Ward
I realize that since coming on board this blog, I have never made Ward as my Author of the Year. I’m pretty shocked, after all Ward has yet to disappoint. Her BDB books gave me the love for PNR and pretty much encouraged me to step out of the box. Her writing is amazing and always seem to pull all kinds of emotions out of me. When someone ask me who my favorite author is, Ward is the first to come to mind.

I coblog and review here at Under the Covers and occasionally review for Hot Listens.I love to read PNR, UF, Contemporary, New Adult, and Romantic Suspense. Occasionally, I will venture to Erotica, BDSM reads and rarely Historical Romance. There are some sub-genres that I don’t always enjoy, but I’m open to stepping out of my comfort zone. For the most part, as long as there’s a hint of romance, I’m pretty much in.
